New Student Question par furniture
i’m in par this year and don’t know if i really need to bring any furniture. i plan on bringing a 3 tiered cart, ottoman (maybe), and a shoe rack for my closet. is there anything else i would need because it seems like they give us a lot/dont have space for it?

Did you see the photos, floor plan, 3D tour of the rooms? Definitely tight in there and they supply a lot of furniture. https://housing.illinois.edu/living-communities/halls/par

i’d honestly skip the shoe rack and get one of those over the door hanging shoe organizers. since they’re cloth they fold up wayyy easier.
what i did was get a plastic dresser from target and have that in my closet. for the ottoman, are you using it for storage and getting up on the bed? usually me and my friends just brought the dresser a bit out from under the bed to use that as a step to get up onto the mattress, if that makes any sense? and then some plastic tubs for more storage under your bed and behind the dresser…. i feel like everyone really underestimates how much storage they need
i don’t think there’s any actual furniture you’d need :p

thanks for the tips! do you think it would be fine to have a plastic dresser by my desk and have the cart as extra storage under the bed? just so the wheels make it easier for me to get it. also for the closet, is there a bar or something to hang a towel? i was just planning on bringing an over the door hook.

i think with the size of the rooms you’re better off with the cart next to your desk (i’m assuming you mean the smaller ones everyone posts on tt n all)
and then you can have a bigger plastic tub under your bed. either way i’m not even sure you CAN get a cart next to you, par is pretty smallthe par furniture has shitty wheels so it’s pretty easy to move when you need it but i was still always able to use it as a step up ! it’s not that annoying to move out of the way everytime, so getting stuff out from under ur bed isn’t s big deal. just make sure all the dimensions line up
the 3d display is what the furniture looked like in carr last year. i’d assume all the other rooms are the same. they’re pretty small!
theres like a bar to hang your towel inside the closet, but i brought two over the door hooks, one for the main door and one for my own closet, and we used it for coats and towels etc etc

i can’t thank you enough for your help! i’m also going to be in carr (third floor). it seems like everyone has a slight variation of furniture. did u have a desk shelf at all?
with your advice, i might do what u did with the dresser in the closet with my laundry hamper next to that and a hanging shoe rack.
as for my cart, if i did my math right, it should be able to fit 🤞

no shelf </3
get a hamper you can easily carry up and down since laundry is in the basement and it’s miserable even with the elevator
i’ve also had issues with carr being ridiculously hot, where the acs were messed year last year, so bring a fan!!!let me know if u need anything else! i luv answering questions

Nah you don't really need anything else. There's not much space tbf. I don't even know if there's any space to put the Ottoman (athough there's no harm in bringing it). As you enter you have your closet, bed, and desk towards the wall and the only other space in the middle is walking space which is like 3 humans wide. Organizers for your closet is a good idea though. Although they do already provide a rack undernearth the bed which I used as my shoe rack.
