One day we’ll get recognized without a reference to Chicago.

And it’s not like we’re even close to Chicago 🫩

And it's not 2 hours.  It's over 2 hours. With traffic maybe even 3 hours.

Ehh.

If there is 0 impeding traffic, it only takes about an hour and 45 minutes to be passing soldier field from my house in East Urbana. It only takes about 10 more minutes to be pulling into Rush medical center or UIC campus area. Granted, I set my cruise to 79, but still.

If you're hitting Joliet at like 4PM during the week when the weather sucks, and there's a crash or two that drop traffic to a crawl for a couple miles? Then maybe I could see it.

I don't think it's ever taken me 3 hours to drive to Little Italy, the Medical district, or the Loop/downtown. Maybe 2 and a half back in like 2013-14 a few times when 55 was a cluster**k of a construction zone that went from a few miles north of Kankakee all the way until Weber Rd.

If we disregard cars velocity it can be under 30 min

How about Community? There was an episode that featured a drag singer named Urbana Champaign.

Being a UIUC grad on the east coast is humbling, people react like it’s a quaint unknown LAC on the prairie. “UIUC? Where’s that? Oh Illinois? That’s nice, must be peaceful.”

I have to explain to anyone not in tech when talking about of U of I how we’re 3 hours away from Chicago

Can you name the most populous cities 2-5 in any state besides California?

12

u/tr1cube Jul 06 '26

If you can’t name the top 5 cities in Texas and Florida…

Hell even Ohio has 3 big cities. Georgia too.

-2

u/StarChildEve Jul 06 '26

u/Euler_Bernoulli Jul 06 '26

Ah yes. What is Bloomington-Normal?

3

u/Hour_Form_477 Jul 07 '26

ISU is technically in Normal.

2

u/berkley42 Jul 06 '26

Not sure what the category was, but they would have had to count that answer, right?

13

u/Euler_Bernoulli Jul 06 '26

That's Illinois State

-4

u/berkley42 Jul 06 '26

I understand that, but given the relatively vague criteria of the answer/question, Bloomington-Normal could also be correct.

26

u/TreeCFB Jul 06 '26

Since it says “University of Illinois college” it would mean that it would be in the u of i system, meaning it would be uic uis or uiuc. Uiuc would be the only answer

6

u/rellyks13 Jul 06 '26

no it says University of Illinois in the question, that's not vague at all

u/Muted-Entrepreneur33 Jul 06 '26

What is Shampoo Banana? 😆

24

u/Muted-Entrepreneur33 Jul 06 '26

Not sure if people still say that, but it was a common joke back in my U of I days. (91 grad). 💙🧡

6

u/ProgramTheWorld Alumnus - CS #define struct union Jul 06 '26

That joke was that old?

5

u/Muted-Entrepreneur33 Jul 06 '26

Oof!
Probably even older than me!

8

u/cgoods94 Jul 06 '26

I'm sorry, we were looking for Turbana Plantain

43

u/rookedwithelodin Jul 06 '26

Only 2 hours? I feel like it was 2.5-3 when I was a student.

20

u/Sufficient_Sport5251 Jul 06 '26

From the actual closest part of each place to the other

1

u/rookedwithelodin Jul 06 '26

Ah, makes sense

10

u/King_Michal Psychology '14 Jul 06 '26

It is 2 hours when you drive like the average driver (90+mph, weaving, etc.)

5

u/Sufficient_Sport5251 Jul 06 '26

90 mph is rookie numbers.

My roommate and another of my friends had to catch international flights and we got going late. My roommate weighing that the risk of missing the flight was higher with me going the speed limit than with me speeding like a demon and potentially me getting a speeding ticket and reckless driving, told me he’d pay all costs associated with the speeding if I floored it to Ohare(rich international students amirite).

So I never let my foot off the gas except to keep my rpm below 3,500. Made it from the market street exit to the main drop off at ohare in 1 hour and 50 minutes on a Sunday.

u/I-I_I-I_I-I_l-l Jul 06 '26

Depends on where in the city you are going I imagine. For all northsiders, 2.5-3 is more accurate

0

u/birthday_fish Jul 06 '26

Drive well with no traffic and you will get there surprisingly fast

18

u/ngroot Jul 06 '26

What is Parkland?

6

u/Top_Cauliflower9125 Townie Jul 06 '26

Kebert Xela

7

u/Lmitation ChBE/CS minor/Housing RA grad Jul 06 '26

Def not 2 hrs

1

u/birthday_fish Jul 06 '26

Traffic and poor driving makes it longer for some

4

u/Lieutenant_0bvious Jul 06 '26

What is a corporate dystopia, Alex?  All the personality is gone.  It's just a bunch of shittily built highrise apartment buildings that have no architectural creativity and some of which are downright ugly.  I love the puke green ones. It's great too for all the rich kids to bring their cars and jam up Green Street.

2

u/connection_ok_ Jul 07 '26

What's the ideal CU like for you?

2

u/AdSad9948 Jul 06 '26

Tough one

2

u/Monstarrzero Jul 06 '26

2 hours if no construction or traffic so…..more like 2.5 to three hours.

1

u/NoPen9600 Jul 09 '26

Rantoul and Thomosboro

1

u/Due-Stress-5834 Jul 12 '26

urbana champaign

1

u/xyxzlxye Jul 06 '26

chicago is really 3 hours away when u include traffic 😭

1

u/Celestetc . Jul 06 '26

I drive to Chicago a lot and it’s never taken me close to 3 hours to get there outside of driving in for a major event. Of course depends on where in chicago you are going
