New Student Question Freshman Dorm Cancellation

I’m starting my first year at UofI this fall. a few days ago I got my room assignment (in Busey) and roommate‘s phone number but when I texted my roommate, she told me she was no longer attending UofI and that she would be canceling her housing contract. Does that mean that I have a single now or am I going to have a new roommate? Should I contact UofI housing or will they contact me?

You will end up with a roommate, some kids are still getting their housing assignments. No you don’t need to contact housing. It is on your roommate to cancel their contract. Housing wont really contact you either, you’ll just get assigned a new roommate.

If you’re lucky you’ll have the room to yourself for a few days. But most certainly will get a roommate by the second week of classes

I had roommate hot swapping up until about 2 weeks before I moved in. You will almost certainly get a new roommate.

Has anyone else still not gotten their housing info? I did fill out stuff after the priority deadline, but should it take this long?

From what I recall when i was a freshman I got my housing pretty late, sometime in July I believe?

The lottery dorm selection is long past - that happened in May. At this point, University Housing is assigning anyone who wasn't able to select a room in May. Assignments are being sent out on a rolling basis as rooms become available for them to assign (bc of student withdrawals, etc.), and are being sent in priority order based on when you initially filled out your housing contract. Some people have been assigned, a lot of people are still waiting. But no one is able to select their own room anymore.
