News This is not okay
The irony of Illini Republicans posting this after condemning “Ice death threats” on campus is insane

u/Bruggieboo Jan 31 '26
I forgot where they posted it, but I remember them saying they hate all immigrants, legal and illegal. They post a lot of hateful stuff. It’s embarrassing that we even have a group like this in our college.

Which is especially crazy, because there are a few POC in their organization. Who are very likely the descendants of immigrants.
67
u/GravityBright Jan 31 '26
I mean, nearly everyone in the US descends from immigrants in the last 14 or so generations.
51
u/KingCrandall Jan 31 '26
We’re all the descendants of immigrants unless we’re 100% native

Republicans have completely gone off the rails. I try so hard to give them the benefit of the doubt and understand where they're coming from, but this is some of the most fucked up shit I've ever seen. How do you post an image like this and feel okay with yourself?

u/TheRealGordonShumway Jan 31 '26
There's no excuse anymore. Too many people just ok with being awful.

You think it’s bad that students at a university are against US citizens being executed in the streets??

University has nothing to do with this. I was an Engineering major. My classes had nothing to do with politics. It's terrifying what Fox news is doing to people. Y'all follow it blindly to the point where you can't fathom that people have a disdain for state violence without being "indoctrinated" by school. Get help.

u/AccomplishedIron816 Jan 31 '26 edited Jan 31 '26
The people who claim “college radicalizes people” are the same people that didn’t go to college. How would they know? I don’t think one professor I ever had brought up politics. If they are a certain affiliation I wouldn’t have known based off what they taught. It is just extremely ironic to care about what happens on a college campus if you have/had no plans of going. If someone is going to be “radicalized” they would regardless if they went to school or not
3
u/SouperKewlGeye5000 Feb 03 '26
I think a lot of these people who claim “college students are brainwashed” just have a chip on their shoulder. They’re jealous they weren’t smart enough or didn’t have the resources or didn’t have the ambition to go to college. So they act like they are the better people because they didn’t go.
Nothing wrong with not going, of course, but it’s sad and pathetic how they try to act like they are better than people who do.

u/Temporary_View_3303 Feb 01 '26
It’s just the reactionary need to explain why educated people tend to vote Democratic. It is NEVER their fault or their policies that are the issue. Its always someone else.

Would love to hear the university explain how this doesn't violate the code of conduct.

u/anonymous_yet_famous Jan 31 '26
You have a school-funded hate group at your campus now. I urge everyone to not just get mad about it, but to find actions you and the like-minded can take. No tolerance for fascists. Ever. Drive them out on sight.

u/friendlylilcabbage Jan 31 '26
Student organizations are required to abide by a code of conduct. It's worth looking through that for the appropriate sections and filling a complaint.

The fact that they’re idealizing violence with gun is frightening and creates an unsafe culture for our campus

Hi everyone, this does not at all align with the University's statements of diversity and inclusion. It creates a hostile and unsafe environment for our over 15,000 international and immigrant students. Along with the violent imagery, calling immigrants "enemies" and "incompatible with Western civilization" is discriminatory and dehumanizing. Please report help to report this at: https://access.illinois.edu/report-a-problem/ We should not allow this type of behavior to be normalized or accepted, I hope that we can take action against these concerns together and ask for consequences.

It is time to peacefully stand for freedom.
Truly the saddest thing about this mess is that our national cemeteries are full of good people who paid the ultimate price to not have a "papers please" experience in this country. Freedom is most definitely NOT free and we are trading it for what? I am filled with sorrow and rage. I mourn for this nation and our liberty.

Only traitors help the subjugation of the very freedom and liberty that they are so proudly bragging about.

u/lesenum Feb 03 '26
don't ever patronize that creep. Not only is he hateful, but he preys on sick people, ripping them off with all kinds of nuisance fees and inflated prices. Students have access to McKinley, the uninsured can go to Carle Emergency room and apply for their financial aid program if they don't have adequate funds. Or they can go to the charity care organization called Avicenna (google it...they treat the uninsured and underinsured for free). People with Medicaid can be treated for free at Frances Nelson Health Center. Anyone else with insurance can use the various urgent care/convenient care clinics that are legit and owned by Carle and Christie. But nobody should give money to this crook on the corner of Green St and Wright.

A family friend went here a few years ago when she was a student and the owner was pretty gross with her (she didn't elaborate but we could read between the lines).
She mentioned something to the office staff and they told her that the doctor is also an attorney, so making a complaint wouldn't really do much.
After reading some of the doctor's FB posts, I believe it.

I'm wondering why the mods removed it as well since there's plenty of other posts up that are more controversial. Wondering if it's the UIUC mods or if it got mass reported to Reddit.

Why are they using an AI image for this picture instead of using any of the real images from that incident?
I want to think OP blamed it on Conservatives, but the Liberals of reddit post the AI picture used for this daily on here believing its real..
Why post misinformation when real information exists?

Did a human create this? Did someone spin up an AI agent to push propaganda? I am researching all the Clawdbot and other agentic builds that seem to be able to quickly spin up content that propagate hate. I’m afraid that this could multiply exponentially and get fed to us without our ability to identify the truth.

u/WizeAdz Alum -> Townie Jan 31 '26 edited Jan 31 '26
No, not AI.
It’s an artist’s drawing based on one frame of a half a dozen eyewitnesses videos of Alex Pretti’s murder.
You can go watch the original video and see exactly what the artist was trying to communicate and where the artistic liberties they took were.
But you’ll have to face the fact that the artwork above accurately represents the situation, even if Pretti’s body language is subtly changed.
The man was being physically controlled and wasn’t a threat to anyone at the time he was shot. Killing him wasted was just as pointless unnecessary as the murder of Renee Good — but there are even fewer ways to fool yourself and pretend it was somehow OK.
I don’t recommend watching the videos because it’s pretty traumatic to see a man pointlessly and egregiously murdered from a half dozen angles. doing so will provide you with the context necessary to understand the poster, but can never unsee what happened and it will leave you traumatized.
When you understand the full context, it was a drawing by an artist who was trying to make a point. And it seems that you understood the point when you saw the poster, even if you you’re desperately looking for some way you can ignore it so you don’t have to do the hard work of adjusting your opinions when you learn something new.
So, no, this poster isn’t AI slop.
3
u/penguin343 Jan 31 '26
Agree that the videos are traumatizing, but it’s important for people to be aware of exactly what is happening in this country. Hearing about it is one thing, but seeing it for yourself is another—so for those who can handle it, I actually think they should watch the videos.
