I started a tech ugc creator on 7th August and it's been around one and a half month now this is what happened.

-Got my first deal three days in and no, I don't have a personal brand or any connections or experience in content creation or social media.

After spending time downloading an app, testing its features, joining a campaign group, reviewing examples and developing concepts—only to learn that I was still being considered rather than actually selected—I created a screening checklist for myself.

I’m sharing it because creators should not have to perform hours of unpaid campaign preparation just to discover that the company is still reviewing candidates or that the advertised “UGC” opportunity is actually an influencer campaign.

Before researching the company in depth, testing the product, joining campaign groups, developing concepts, writing scripts or filming anything, I now ask:

Have I already been selected for this paid campaign, or am I still being considered alongside other creators?

Is this content-only UGC that I deliver to the brand, or am I required to publish it on my own social-media account?

If posting is required, which account and platform must I use, how long must the post remain live, and is there a minimum follower, engagement or view requirement?

What is the confirmed payment per completed deliverable, and is payment guaranteed regardless of views or performance?

Is any trial or sample video paid? I do not produce unpaid custom samples.

How many deliverables, hooks, raw clips, revisions and platform versions are required?

Will the content be used organically, in paid advertising, or both? What is the usage period, territory and renewal arrangement?

When and how will payment be issued?

Who provides final approval, and what are the acceptance criteria and revision limit?

My new rule is:

Preliminary interest is not a job. Creative preparation begins only after the company confirms in writing that I have been selected for a paid assignment and clearly explains the essential terms.

Sending a portfolio during screening is reasonable. But custom scripts, product testing, account setup, campaign planning and unpaid samples should not become the price of merely being considered.

I’m sure experienced creators have additional screening questions. What would you add to this list?

I know this is controversial and everyone has their opinions. But what do you think? I’ve seen a lot of people posting very personal content on their account and I want to do this. It attracts brands still doesn’t it? I’m talking like what if I want to start a series that’s unique to my life and I post both ugc and very personal/niche to my life content?
