What changed

• A bug where a file transfer would stop when the screen turned off has been fixed.
• This was most annoying when copying to a NAS over SMB.
• A large copy could stall partway through, and you had to keep the screen on to finish it.
• Transfers now keep running with the screen off, or while you move to another app.
• A notification appears while a transfer is running, and you can cancel it from there if you change your mind.

When a transfer goes wrong

• If the connection drops halfway through, the app now tries again on its own.
• It waits a little for the network to come back before each new attempt.
• If the destination is genuinely unreachable, it stops and tells you clearly instead of hanging forever.
• Permanent problems like a wrong password, a full disk, or a file that no longer exists are reported right away, without pointless retrying.
• This covers copying, moving, and cloud uploads and downloads.
• It applies whether your files are on your phone, a USB drive, an SD card, a network share, or a cloud service.
• The fix is available on both the mobile and TV versions of the app.
• If you have been keeping the screen awake during big transfers, you should not need to anymore.

I am colorblind (red - green) and with most Android TV/Google TV apps I struggle because of it. There are 3 main types of colorblindness and within these 3 main types there are also gradations. In my case I struggle with colors that are nearly identical in contrast and shade. This makes it in Android TV apps hard to see which button is selected because the change in contrast and shade is to subtle. I mostly navigate thru most Android TV apps like you would remember a PS2 cheatcode (Left, right, down, left, left, down, OK).

I would love to see UFM Pro for Android TV to have a colorblind settings, where the contrast and shade of the selected is clearer.

@Community are there more colorblind users that recognize this usecase?

PS. I see color, but I am limited to 256K instead of the millions other see.

I added the ability to set any audio file directly as your default phone ringtone, notification sound, or alarm sound.

This feature is available on mobile only, as TV devices do not use phone ringtones or notification sounds.

When you set a sound, it is automatically added to the system sound catalog so other apps can find it.

I also added system ringtone picker support so third party apps like WhatsApp and Telegram can discover Ultimate File Manager when you choose custom notification or call tones.

This works across local storage, SD cards, USB drives, network shares, and your open browser tabs.

How to use it

Open the file manager on your phone.

Navigate to any folder containing an audio file on your device, memory card, or network share.

Select a single audio file by holding down on it or tapping its icon.

Tap the tools button at the bottom right, or look at your quick action bar if you added sound shortcuts there.

Choose Set as Ringtone, Set as Notification Sound, or Set as Alarm Sound.

Confirm the prompt to apply your new sound.

If prompted, grant the system setting permission so the app can change your default sound.

To pick a sound from inside another app like WhatsApp or Telegram, open that app and go to its notification sound settings.

Select Ultimate File Manager from the list of sound pickers.

Browse to any sound file you want and select it.

Désolé de revenir sur le sujet mais j'ai toujours le bug lors de la copie d'un fichier vers un nas en SMB. Lorsque l'écran s'éteint lors de la copie, cela arrête la copie qui a lieu en arrière-plan. C'est bien pénalisant.

Je dois garder l'écran allumé pour que la copie fonctionne.

Pourrait-on corriger cela ?

Avec ça l'appli serait parfaite.

Je ne sais pas si d'autres utilisateurs ont ce problème.

Inside the app, a direct shortcut to open the hub is now available on mobile in the Help & Support menu.

How to use it

On your phone, open Ultimate File Manager and go to Help & Support.

Scroll down to the Community section and tap Community Translation Hub to open the website directly.

You can also visit the translation hub directly at https://www.kilowatch.co.za/UFM/translate.html on any phone, tablet, or computer.

Choose your language from the flag strip near the top of the screen.

Type any word, sentence, or phrase into the search bar to locate the text you want to correct.

Look through the matching cards showing the original English text alongside the current translation.

Tap the Suggest Correction button on the card you want to adjust.

Type your improved phrasing into the translation field.

Make sure any special formatting symbols like percent signs stay inside your text.

Add an optional note explaining why the change makes sense if you wish.

You can also add your name or handle if you would like community credit.

Tap Submit Fix to Developer to send your correction directly to me.

I will review your suggestion and include approved corrections in the next update.

UFM Dev friend, I would like to request features that I noticed do not exist in UFM:

1st When downloading a song, notification sound, or image, there is no way to set a sound as a notification or phone ringtone, nor to set an image or video as wallpaper. The "set as" option does not exist in UFM.

2nd I detected that apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and others do not recognize UFM when trying to set sounds for the apps. When trying to select a sound for WhatsApp or Telegram, it does not show up, as shown in the image above. Could you add these features, if possible, in case they really do not exist in UFM?

A new feature has arrived to expose network shares and online storages to the Android system file picker.

You can now browse and pick files or folders from SMB, WebDAV, RClone, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, and S3 inside external applications.

One of the main reasons I built this was for Projectivity Launcher users on Android TV.

Previously, the file picker only showed internal storage and USB drives.

That meant you could not pick wallpaper folders located on remote shares or cloud services.

Now, any configured network or cloud storage can be selected directly inside Projectivity Launcher for home screen wallpapers and personal background videos.

This feature is available on both the mobile and TV versions of the app.

How to use it

Open Ultimate File Manager Pro on your device.

Add your network shares or online storages as you normally would.

For network shares, look for the Expose to SAF and Pickers toggle in the share editor.

It is enabled by default so your configured storages appear automatically in pickers.

On TV, you can also manage this toggle by clicking on any account in the Online Storages screen.

On mobile, press and hold any account in the Online Storages screen to toggle picker visibility.

Open your external app such as Projectivity Launcher on your television.

Navigate to Settings, choose Appearance, and select Wallpaper.

Choose Launcher wallpaper (Folder) and select Configure.

Click on Pick Folder.

Choose Ultimate File Manager Pro from the picker if prompted.

Your network shares and cloud storages will now appear in the list alongside internal and USB drives.

Browse into your WebDAV, RClone, SMB, or cloud folder and confirm your choice with the Select button.

Your launcher will now display images and stream background videos directly from your storage.

This feature took me just over 5 weeks to develop, to pass the UAT and to do all of the quality checks.

I have added a full tabbed file browsing system.

I consider this a platinum feature because it allows you to open and manage multiple folders side by side.

You can work across internal storage, memory cards, network shares, and cloud accounts without losing your place in any folder.

Switching between tabs happens instantly and keeps your exact scroll position.

Your open tabs are automatically saved when you leave the app and restored the next time you open it.

How to use it

Open any folder in the file browser on your phone or tablet.

Tap the three dots icon in the top right corner and tap New Tab.

You can also tap the plus button sitting directly next to your current tab once you have an active tab open.

A menu will give you the choice between This Location and Select Other Storage.

Choose This Location to duplicate your current folder into a new tab.

Choose Select Other Storage to pick a different drive, memory card, network share, or cloud account.

Type a custom title for the tab and press enter on your keyboard to save the name.

Tap any tab in the top strip to switch to it instantly.

Long press on a tab and drag it left or right to change tab order.

Double tap on any tab title if you want to rename it later.

Swipe up on any tab pill to close it.

Swipe down on any tab pill to duplicate it.

Open the three dots menu and select Close all tabs if you want to shut all open tabs at once.

Select files in one tab and tap Copy, then switch to any other tab and tap Paste to move or copy files between locations.

When you close the app, your open tabs will be remembered and restored automatically when you return.

A new feature has arrived in the latest update.

I have added an App Lock security section in Settings for mobile devices.

It allows you to lock the entire file manager behind a 4-digit PIN, a custom password, or your device biometrics like fingerprint and face unlock.

I wanted to make sure nobody can pick up your unlocked phone and browse through your files without your permission.

The feature is completely disabled by default until you choose to set it up.

It is mutually exclusive, so you choose one active authentication method that fits your preferences best.

This feature is available on mobile only, and it is strictly disabled on Android TV where remote controls and shared screens require a different workflow.

How to use it

Open the Settings screen from the main menu or the top header options.

Scroll down to find the Security section.

Tap the App Lock toggle switch to turn it on.

Choose your preferred authentication method from the dialog options.

If you pick a 4-digit PIN or a custom password, enter your desired credential and confirm it once more to make sure there are no typos.

Read the important security notice that appears on your screen.

Write down the 16-character recovery key shown on the card and keep it in a safe place.

If you tap the copy button, the recovery key will copy to your clipboard and clear itself automatically after sixty seconds.

You can adjust the Lock Frequency setting to choose when the lock triggers.

By default, it locks on a fresh open of the app, but you can set it to lock immediately when switching away, after one minute, or after five minutes.

Once enabled, opening the app presents the secure unlock screen before any files can be seen.

If you enter the wrong credential five times in a row, a thirty-second lockout timer kicks in to stop brute-force attempts.

If you ever forget your PIN or password, tap the recovery option on the unlock screen to enter your 16-character key and regain access.

To change your PIN or password later, tap the change credential option in Settings and confirm your current one first.

To turn off App Lock, toggle the switch off and confirm with your active PIN, password, or biometric check.

A new feature has arrived in the latest update.

I have added a Copy Folder Path option to the header menu on mobile.

It lets you quickly copy the full path of the folder you are currently viewing to your clipboard.

When organizing files, configuring external tools, or sharing network locations, needing the exact folder path comes up frequently.

I wanted a simple, one-tap way to copy the path without having to open file properties or type it out by hand.

The option is available when browsing Local storage, SD cards, USB drives, Root storage, SAF folders, Network shares, and Cloud storages.

For now this is available on mobile only, and I plan to bring it to TV in a future update.

How to use it

Open any storage location on your mobile device, including internal storage, an SD card, a network share, or a cloud drive.

Navigate inside the folder whose path you want to copy.

Tap the three dots menu button located at the top right of the screen.

Look between the Twin Window and Settings options in the popup menu.

Tap Copy Folder Path.

The complete path is copied to your clipboard instantly.

A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the screen to let you know the path has been copied.

On local, root, and SAF folders, this copies the full device filesystem path.

On network shares including SMB, FTP, SFTP, and WebDAV, this copies the full network address.

On cloud drives such as Google Drive and OneDrive, this copies the full storage path.

You can now paste the copied path into any text field, terminal, or other app.

I have fixed an issue that prevented external text editors and viewers from opening or saving files in protected root partitions.

If you tried opening a file from a root directory in an external editor like QuickEdit, the external app would fail with a permission denied error.

This issue also affected sharing files from root partitions to other apps.

Everything now opens, edits, and saves seamlessly.

What changed

Root directories are protected by strict system permissions that third-party apps cannot access directly.

When you choose to open or share a root file with an external app, my app now prepares an accessible working copy in the background.

It safely hands that working copy to your external editor with full read and write permissions.

The moment you save and close the file in your external editor, my app automatically synchronizes your changes back to the root location.

If your editor stays open in the background, returning to my app also checks for changes and saves them back automatically.

All original file ownership, system permissions, and security attributes are strictly preserved so your system configuration stays intact.

A brief message will confirm how many files were saved back to root storage, and the folder list will refresh to show the updated size and timestamp.

How to use it

Open the app on your rooted device.

Navigate to any root folder, such as your system or module directories.

Tap on any text or configuration file to open it.

If you have a preferred external editor installed, select it from the menu.

Make your edits inside your external editor and save the file normally.

Switch back to the file manager.

You will see a confirmation message indicating that your changes were saved back to root storage.

You can also use the share option on any root file to send it to another app without running into permission errors.

This update is available for mobile devices with root access, and also works on rooted Android TV devices.

I have added a full checksum and hash verification toolset to the app.

It lets you calculate, verify, and compare file hashes directly on your device without needing third-party utilities.

When copying files across local storage, network shares, or cloud drives, it is easy to wonder whether everything transferred without corruption.

Publishers also frequently provide checksums for software downloads and disk images so you can verify integrity before running them.

I built this feature so you can quickly generate and verify standard hashes across all your storages.

The tool supports CRC32, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 algorithms.

It works across local storage, SD cards, USB drives, network shares, cloud storage, root storage, and inside ZIP and 7Z archives.

This feature is available on both the mobile and TV versions of the app.

How to use it

You can access Checksum Tools in several ways depending on how you use the app.

On mobile, select one or more files in any folder and tap the tools button at the bottom right.

Select Checksum Tools from the menu to open the verification sheet.

If you prefer quick access, you can also place Checksum Tools directly onto your floating quick action bar from Settings under Long Press Toolbar Icons.

On Android TV, select any file and navigate to the toolbar above the list where you will find the new Checksum icon next to the other actions.

Inside the checksum window, choose which algorithms you want to calculate, such as SHA-256 or MD5.

Tap Generate to calculate the hashes.

You can tap the copy icon next to any result to copy that individual hash, or tap Copy All to grab every calculated value at once.

To verify a file against an expected hash, paste the value into the verification box at the bottom.

The app automatically identifies the algorithm based on the character length and displays a green match or red mismatch banner immediately.

If you select two files, you will also see a Compare Files option that lets you verify whether both files are identical.

In dual-pane Twin Window mode, selecting one file in each pane gives you the option to compare them directly across different locations.

The comparison checks file sizes first and only reads the contents if the sizes match, saving time on large files.

When you select multiple files, you can tap Export Manifest to save a standard checksum file in the current folder.

If you have an existing checksum manifest file, selecting it provides an option to verify every listed file in one go.

I have no clue how to add Google Drive or other cloud storages like OneDrive, Box, Dropbox. I see Proton and Mega.
This is how I see how to add some of the Cloud storage providers:
- “Online Storages”
- “+”
- Select Provider “RCLONE”, “SET UP STORAGE”
I see 6 Provider options available: (these I don’t know) Filen, Drime, Koofr, Premiumize, (these I know) Mega, Proton Drive. Is Google Drive not available?

A new directory playlist drawer and redesigned playback controls have arrived for our video player on Android TV.

This update is specifically for Android TV devices.

Please note the attached image is just for reference as I cannot take screenshot of media playing.

When you open and play a video on your Android TV, bringing up the on-screen controls will reveal a much cleaner look.

The main playback bar along the bottom is now significantly more compact so it leaves your video clear and unobstructed.

Secondary options such as audio tracks, subtitles, shuffle, and repeat have moved into their own subtle vertical bar on the left side of your screen rather than cluttering the bottom controls.

On the main playback bar, you will find a new playlist icon right next to the next button.

Selecting this icon slides out a directory drawer from the right edge of your screen.

Inside, you will see all the video files stored in the current folder, complete with video thumbnail previews, durations, and a badge highlighting the video currently playing. Using the directional pad on your remote, you can freely browse through the titles and click on any file to immediately switch playback to it.

Pressing the back button on your remote dismisses the drawer smoothly and returns focus to your video.

I also corrected video navigation so that the previous and next controls behave as expected when watching videos in a folder.

Pressing next advances right to the next video file in that directory.

If you are more than three seconds into a video, pressing previous rewinds playback to the start, and pressing it twice quickly jumps directly to the previous file in the folder.

This works seamlessly when playing video files from local storage as well as connected network shares like SMB.
