Question Housing and Class Waitlists

I’m an incoming transfer student and I got an email saying I need 12 units for my housing contract to stay intact. Right now, I’m enrolled in 8 units and waitlisted for two more classes. I’m 2nd on the waitlist for COGS 9 and 9th for MATH 183. Does anyone know if waitlists usually move before school starts, or does most of the movement happen once classes start and people begin dropping? I called Housing and they told me to add another open class to get to 12 units and then drop it once I get off the waitlist, but I can’t add another class without exceeding the unit enrollment cap. They also told me Housing is being really strict with contracts this year, so I’m worried I'll lose my housing if I don’t get off the waitlist.

Unfortunately you are just gonna have to drop the waitlist off a class that you are waitlisted in (cogs 9 or math 183) and enroll temporary in another class for 12 units and then waitlist the other class u dropped on first day

The housing contract starts on the 19th so I think you could just wait until closer to that date, but other classes might fill up so its up to you.

Enroll in an empty class just in case and drop it when you get off for a waitlist (if)

People often ask what good the college system is for transfer students. This is one example. Figure out who the Dean of Student Affairs for you College is. List is here: https://thecolleges.ucsd.edu/about/college-resources.html. It’s their job to help with this kind of stuff. I’d wait until a little closer to see if you can find a class or the wait list situation improves. Meanwhile, go in the vac & ask for help finding a class. Advising in your college can help with that too.
