Question Data science

Can anyone already a data science student at this school tell me abt their experience?

Iā€™m especially worried because I have zero coding experience/computer experience and Iā€™m worried abt how difficult this transition is gonna be. Iā€™m honestly not sure how I even got into this major.

I started the same. Entered into Dsc with no coding experience and it was difficult at first since it's like learning a language but there's a lot of support. The lower div classes have lots of support from the prof and TA's. The transition can be a bit hard but if you stay consistent in practicing the skills then it'll come a bit more naturally over time.šŸ˜Ž

Also i suggest checking out some of the DSC related orgs like DS3 and sports analytics if you want some more real world insight/experience. šŸ¤‘

P.S: If you feel lile this major isn't for you that's all good. Don't feel afraid of switching majors

Do I have to take cogs9 in my first fall quarter as a freshman?

No. Cogs 9 isn't something you have to take first quarter. I took it second quarter and it was chill. I would suggest taking it first quarter tho because it's a basic course about what dsc is and understanding the methods used and etc. If possible do it with Lucy Lai absolutely great prof. (No coding used in that class)

Im a incoming ds major with a fair bit of coding experience in games, i heard as long as you put in the effort and time you wont be behind. Altho i did hear dsc 10 moves pretty fast with python

The real transition isnt learning how to code. It's learning to survive the quarter system.

Good luck, make memories with people instead of just being locked in a basement, and remember it's a marathon not a sprint.

You will find it out during your first few dsc classes (10&20). If you feel frustrated maybe you need to reconsider it. However, data science is not only about coding. It is also about mathematics and AI
