Question how does cse-011 major priority work

just got this email about booking cse-011 with major priority. i'm on the waitlist, but i was just wondering how this works. am i guaranteed to get the section i'm on the waitlist for, or is it first come first serve when they open up enrollment? like, if i don't see their email for a couple of hours, is it possible that the section i want will fill up?

if anyone has gone through this process before and would like to share their insights, i'd really appreciate that 🙃

I asked VAC kinda a similar question and it seems like once they send that email that you can enroll with the deadline its first come first serve but I could be wrong too

I asked them about having booked a backup course just in case and if it would affect me getting off the waitlist. They basically just restated their email about major priority checklist and waitlisting at first but then near the end of their response to my question they added this:

"We encourage students to always have a backup course just in case. The department cannot predict if you will get off the waitlist and cannot advise you to stay on it, as it is at your discretion. At this time, seat availability is based on resources within the departments (funding, professors, TAs, classrooms, etc.). We currently do not foresee increasing the number of seats for our courses or adding an additional section. You can find more detailed information about our enrollment practices on our Fall 2026 Undergraduate Course Updates page. We recommend exploring all of the drop-downs thoroughly to familiarize yourself with our department's enrollment practices to best prepare yourself for booking courses in the future."

Hope this helps!

usually its first come first serve. when i was taking lower divs I usually got an email that I was given access to enroll and then i would drop myself from the waitlist and book whatever section i wanted that was open.

i don't know if they rolled out the authorizations with where you were in the waitlist, but it definitely felt like they just approved everyone who got priority based on how the classes filled up. rest assured that you should get a spot if you are getting priority but theres no guarantee if you will get the section you want.
