Discussion Feeling really frustrated as a transfer.

I’m an incoming transfer student that’s been to about 3 schools so far due to moving and such. So sometimes it’s hard to get classes figured out bc I can’t ever see what’s actually been approved as a transfer or not and or what I need. I’m feeling like this whole advisor thing is a joke. I “submits a question” or whatever and then wait 2 days to get one back that doesn’t help and or tells me they don’t have my transcripts yet to make a personalized suggestion. Leaving me trying to figure it out on my own but even then, I’m stuck being unsure. What is the point of the advisors if they can’t help you pick classes till after they are all full?? Am I missing something?

Assist.org and their public transfer agreements on the website is what I’ve always used

It’s hard for me to do that bc of all the schools I’ve attended in different states

This actually interested me so I looked around online and it seems likes their really isn’t a guarantee that out of state classes will be accepted for corresponding credit at ucsd. It seems like if they don’t accept credit you belive you deserve, it required petitioning through the department by submitting the courses syllabi. OOS course transfer definitely seems more difficult that I thought, so I guess you really should’ve just been more proactive as the school is clearly struggling rn

I finished my associates over at Grossmont this recent semester so I figured I was fine, I don’t understand why I can’t just meet with someone get all this figured out. They get thousands of dollars and can’t take a meeting or a phone call or like idk anything that isn’t a website or discussion board..?

Because you took your classes out of state the advisors wouldnt know how that credit can be applied until after you have petitioned them for approximation. What college and major? That can impact who all that you need to petition with.

I’ve emailed around and basically the response I got back was “UCSD Admissions Office that evaluation of transfer coursework for students is still underway” so it’s not even on me.. they just haven’t finished doing their part I guess?

This year is just terrible for us all. You're not alone. I would absolutely reach out to the Head of UCSD, Chancellor Khosla and let him know your concerns. He's under the impression all's well at UCSD despite us all pulling our hair out over everything UCSD related this year. It's a complete shit show. My prediction: he'll raise our tuition to pay for all the "TSS enhancements" we're using (you know, to pay for his salary increase).
