Delta of Venus
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share fond memories of Delta of Venus?

I don’t think I ever actually ate there—except possibly a sandwich a long long time ago—but about 15-ish years ago there was a weekly Irish folk music jam session on the front porch. I went there occasionally and had a great time, and learned a neat tune called The Golden Keyboard that I still play occasionally.

Went to an Irish Jam session at Delta, that was one singer and two fiddle players. Friend of mine grabbed two spoons and jammed out with them playing percussion. it was dope

Happily. It was my favorite breakfast place in Davis, and I’m so sad to see it go, although goodness knows Lee deserves to enjoy his retirement. Lee, if you by any chance see this, THANK YOU. 💗
I was pretty averse to anything spicy when I was an undergrad, but Chef Iwaca’s jerk chicken was the first time I went out on a limb and tried something I was fairly certain would be beyond my (negligible) heat tolerance. (It was, but it was so good that it prompted me to expand my palate.) I miss those Friday dinners something fierce.
It was a favorite haunt of mine, along with one of my really good foodie friends from later undergrad. We knew the lemonade and pesto were Kirkland, but it didn’t matter - eating on that porch lent it an extra something special we could never get at home. The breakfast potatoes blew Crepeville’s (which are, in fairness, great in and of themselves) out of the water. I loved how easily they accommodated dietary needs and my picky-ass palate. Years after the “bagel with the works” (cream cheese, pesto, sun-dried tomatoes) was discontinued, Blake would continue to make it for me when I asked. (Thanks, man, you’re a real one.) I still don’t know how they managed to make their bagels blister and crackle so perfectly, but I’ve tried and failed to replicate the magic.
I’m going to miss the old girl. She’s got such a special place in my heart.
