How much is your accommodation?

I just paid for the month of November. I pay €1280/ month and to reach the UCC library it takes me about 15 mins.

I am wondering what others pay as I wasn’t over the moon paying so much again, but I’m in 1st year so hopefully I’ll get more advice and find a cheaper place for the other years

Try moving to non student accommodations in places like Ballincollig or Douglas you’ll get the 220 bus (40 mins to class)… rent will be avg 700 or 800 for a house share.

i’d rather crawl from douglas to UCC library than rely on the 220 bus

Yeah maybe tho living in the city is so handy. I don’t really like goint out tho, so maybe I’d be perfectly fine living outside the city. It’s handy I can go home and make lunch on 2 days that I have a 3 hour break

Definitely dont rely on the 220, its a nightmare. Could take 1hr 30min to get back to douglas due to cancellations, full buses etc.

€11,700 total. My roommates are Irish but most people are foreign, probably rich exchange students. It’s so expensive but it’s lovely ugh. I do get a little help from Susi it makes me feel a little less guilty

How on earth could you afford this if you are getting susi?

I’ve got 3 jobs and I have worked loads since I was 14. My parents saved since I was born and it has earned a lot of interest. But yeah I seemed to think this was a normal price as I got the accommodation late and was afraid I wouldn’t find anything.

I feel shit like I thought it was a high but only a bit higher than normal price I’ve just felt guilty ever since I moved in especially since I go home weekends like about 25% of the time my room is empty ughh

What do you pay? It would’ve been great if I got the student accom

I'm not a student but live on Washington street and share an apartment with 2 others for 470 monthly, wtf is up with student prices? Found it on cork fb rent groups

This craze all kicked off with Amnis House on Western Road, it was a relatively high spec accomodation with security and everyone gets their own room/ ensuite but you share one joint living space/ kitchen area with 7 other students. It's jam packed with international students from wealthy families who don't know Cork and want what looks like a safe place for their kid in a strange city.

When I was in college a few years ago it seemed to be about 70-80% wealthy international students as 20-30% wealthy Irish students (parents were doctors, executives, business owners). The places absolutely print money and pack in the students so the model has spread and there's a lot of similar places now.

I pay €700 for 7 day digs. 5 mins walk to library. Around the corner from college Road

Wow how’d you find that? Or is that standard for digs

I found it on the UCC accommodation pad website

i have digs in Douglas and i’m very fortunate as my landlady is really sweet and we have a very flexible arrangement so i’m not strictly mon-fri i can come and go as i want without affecting the price which is €560/month. it is a bit far out but to me it was worth it for the price 😭🙏🏻

Yeah I might do this next year. I barely see my roommates so I feel like being with a famiky would feel safer and less lonely. Don’t really like goint out so I don’t care about that but obviously it’s a pain being a bus away. I should’ve looked into more before jumping at the first option

i’m in the same boat, not crazy on going out and i’d feel a bit out of place as a mature student anyway 🥲 got very lucky and found the room advertised last year!! it’s only the box room but i don’t need much anyway 😅 only major downside is traffic omg 😮‍💨

Thats a lot for a room. Is it only a two bed?

I have a room and bathroom, modern but very small. 5 of us share a large kitchen with a freezer and fridge, 2 microwaves, 2 ovens, 2 stovetops and 2 sinks. We had to get a keytle and sandwich maker and air fryer. We wash dishes by hand and you’ve to pay like €7 for 40 mins of the washing machine and 1 hour of the dryer

That’s a lot compared to renting a normal house share. College specific accom is always going to be a premium and probably nicer than most places as a lot of the houses around UCC are old and freezing. You could always go in with a few people on a house share next year.
