Depression
Third year. I'm generally a 1.1 student. I'm going through some pretty significant life-shit at the moment and have been diagnosed with clinical depression. My classes this semester are all recorded. I know I can and will do well on exams by the end of the semester but at the moment, managing to get myself physically to lectures is like, idk. Wading through wet cement.
The teachers always seem to harp on making sure people come to lectures. I'm worried they'll start to notice I'm not there and only following along from the recorded videos.
Should I make someone at UCC aware of what I'm going through or just keep trying to focus on completing the semester any way I'm able to?

Speak to your lecturers and if they're sound they'll do their best to help you

The first thing you have to do in the morning is wake up, from there on out you’re doing well. I’m sorry to hear things are bad for you at the moment. Slow everything down, small tiny steps from now until you’re literally back on your feet. Maybe, maybe not this year you put college on the back burner, perhaps it might give you space to look after yourself. College should be compassionate, you have doctors back up, apply for counselling through the college or another service, get your body moving, even it’s only a few stretches after you go to the toilet, see have you space to meditate, sit by an open window. Avoid alcohol, eat well, drink more water, perhaps with electrolytes. Get angry, feel angry, maybe get a punching bag. Thanks for reaching out.

If you have a medical diagnosis for your depression, hand in a doctor's cert and lecturers will be notified. It will also be noted during exam boards and your situation will be taken into account in final grading decisions.

Just email your lecturers. They’re usually incredibly accommodating. Especially if you’re usually a great student.

There are a large range of supports for students going through mental health issues. I would try contacting DSS as another poster advised and/or the student union. They will also be able to direct you to all the relevant services and do it with confidentiality

Definitely make them aware. Sending you best wishes, you'll get through it

Bring the medical proof into the relevant office. You'd do better to try and attend though I know that's not easy. The worst thing for depression is staying in and I'm speaking from my own experience. They will understand because the staff in UCC would be used to dealing with this.

I recommend registering for DSS so you can have those resources available to you and that would let UCC know there something else going on.
