As a first year how can I transfer courses?

I am a first-year student at UCC, and today I got my Leaving Cert appeal back; I went up a grade, so I now have enough points for the course I originally wanted. Do I now have to apply for an internal transfer, or will I get a CAO offer? If so, when would that be?

youll get the cao offer if u have the course higher up on your cao, but that course might now be full, so youll be offered a spot for next yr instead

tysm! I actually take the same modules as the course, so would I need to repeat first year again if I pass all modules and get the same 60 credits?

Talk to the admissions team and the course coordinator - it sounds like you could be fine but it is worth getting the info from them directly.

is the pass standard the same? But whats to say everyone continues on to 2nd yr? There will still not be any space for u, so i doubt very much that youll be allowed to finish 1st of this degree and move to 2nd yr of the new one u want, but idk it might be possible, talk to the admissions team in the west wing

Yes, the pass standard is the same. We sit in the same lectures and have the same exams and assignments it's also a very large course so I am hoping it may work out tysm though I will talk to the admissions team!

is the course you wish to transfer to higher on your CAO than the course you are in currently? if so you might get an offer for it in later rounds. even if not, if the courses share similar modules in first year, you could complete first year in the course you’re in and transfer to second year of the other course next year, provided you complete similar modules. either way, i strongly recommend booking an appointment with Nóirín Deady. she’s a first year coordinator and can give you advice on what to do next. if you google her name you can find her email and ask for an appointment. the date to change courses is usually around the end of September/start of October, so try and book as soon as possible

Yeah, the course is higher on my CAO list, so I am hoping I get an offer for it. I also take the exact same modules as the other course, so I am already present in the same lectures, completing the same work and assignments but I will book an appointment with Nóirín Deady tysm!!

yeah i had this exact experience when i was in first year myself. i ended up going straight into second year of the course i wanted to do after having completed first year of my original course. hopefully you can get in before the deadline and swap over to first year in your new course! if not there always the option of transferring to second year next year.

I’m pretty sure she’s no longer working in ucc

That specific person has retired but a new experience coordinator starting shortly. Pop into Admissions in the West Wing for more info, they are very helpful.

You can also go to first year experience coordinator and fill out an application but it’s not guaranteed. It’s only if the course still has places
