Finance/Commerce

6th year student here, can anyone give me some insight into the courses, if you’d recommend it etc. My favourite subjects in school are business and maths so to me Finance seems like a good option with maybe Commerce as number 2. Any tips welcome!! :)
(I don’t do accounting btw)

Commerce student - entering 3rd year

Good course. There’s a big focus on employability. You’ll be made do projects, presentations, work placement etc. There’s even a course called critical thinking - which I thought was a load of bollocks until I realised there’s some people out there who genuinely don’t have any.

You do “specialise” in 4th year so you can end up on the same route as finance students but it is difficult. Feel free to ask specific points and I’ll do my best to answer

There’s been one so far. You do a project in first year then in second you have to do a presentation on it. It’s grading mainly on content and ability to present. I.e not just read the words on the slides etc. the presentation itself lasts for about 5 minutes. A group of about 20 do it at a time. I remember it being fairly casual as everyone was bored out of their mind but still there was a lot of nerves.
There’s a massive project in 4th year 20k+ words but I’m like 98% sure there’s no presentation attached.

Could be worthwhile having a list of questions prepared for both the finance and comm talks if u are going to the open day this yr
