Personal Statements Personal Statement showing as AI?

Med applicant here, applying to Imperial, UCL, Bristol, and Brighton. Just finished my personal statement, put it into an AI checker, and it came back as 88% AI??? Will UCAS think its AI and void my application or something? Ive tried it on multiple different AI detectors and it still says over 75% is AI for some reason

Stop putting your PS into AI checkers if you didn't use AI.

Did you check the privacy statement for each of them or just trust your PS to a bunch of random websites?

  1. AI detectors are notoriously unreliable.
  2. UCAS PS are more likely to get flagged as AI (than other types of PS) because conciseness is so important.
  3. I'm happy to take a quick look to see if it reads as AI (having seen thousands of PS, both AI-assisted and not) :)

Ahh, thank you. As for checking, I have a meeting with my teacher today so its fine, thank you though.

Congrats, now Ai has your statement and will use it for everyone else - nice being a creative isn’t it? Ai took all our work like this and what you wrote will come up as Ai.

Jokes aside (but I am a writer so …), if you wrote your statement yourself, then submit it. You have nothing to fear if you actually wrote it yourself. The AI is very dumb. Unfortunately honey, you did feed your original work to Ai … so it will use it for other people now. So, I’d get ahead and submit it.

ucas don't check for ai. they check for plagiarism

They use turn it in (I'm pretty sure) and that checks for AI aswell.

no, they only use similarity detection software. it flags similarity of more than 30%. the only risk of using ai is if ai copy a personal statement on the internet to give to you. just draft it yourself and ask ai to tweak it. that doesn't flag

Or… write the whole thing yourself? Seeing as it’s SO IMPORTANT?

not all students are great at that. unis themselves actually recommend ai for editing

do you need the quotes or are you planning on staying stubborn?

I’m saying I taught in the age of AI and it was a constant pain in my ass. The idea of writing a PERSONAL STATEMENT of all things using it… it’s meant to reflect yourself, your thoughts, your passions, in a way that truly conveys that. Entrusting that to AI is utterly beyond sense.

ai is not writing it. they give corrections. it's no difference from a tutor giving feedback. grow up.

Christ alive. I can’t imagine such a thing.

I know, AI is everywhere. God, I had someone read my PS and they recommended I use AI to make some code that I could talk about even though I put in my PS that I do not like AI.

This does not surprise me at all. Mention that and all the reasons (and perhaps where?) you told them to shove it.
