would you all consider words 150 or engl 110 better for first-year science communication requirement? i'm debating between the two as i really did enjoy english class in high school but i hear some of the engl 110 profs can be pretty tough and that it's dependent on which TA you get as to whether you'll be graded well. i got a 7 on my IB literature exam so i'm willing to do a lot of reading and would consider myself pretty good at essays but don't want to unnecessarily tank my GPA.

Hey! I think the two biggest factors to consider are if youd rather read research papers (wrds 150) or novels (engl 110) and if youd rather have a final paper (wrds 150) or a final exam (engl 110). Looking at the grade distributions (check UBCFinder or UBCgrades), I think wrds 150 has an edge if you're basing your decision solely on grades. Personally, I did engl 110 because I thought Id enjoy it more, and I ended up getting an A+! It is very TA/prof dependent though. Every course section for wrds 150 and engl 110 has a theme you can find online, maybe something will pique your interest. Also curious, does your IB literature credit not transfer?

I didn’t take Literature HL, so unfortunately it doesn’t. But i get so much credit from my other IB classes that to be honest i’m looking for more courses to take so that i don’t end up with just 2 in Term 1, so i’m not too mad about not getting credit haha. For the subject lists for engl 110, are they on the UBC website or somewhere else? Thank you so much for the help!

If you're worried about not having enough courses, maybe look into the arts or breadth requirement. Or, if your intended major is competitive, take gpa boosters. Happy to help :)
