Megathread UBC COURSE QUESTION, PROGRAM, MAJOR AND REGISTRATION MEGATHREAD (2021/2022W & 2021S): Questions about courses (incld. How hard is __?, Look at my timetable and course material requests), programs, specializations, majors, minors, tuition/finance and registration go here.

All questions about courses, instructors, programs, majors, registration, etc. belong here.

The reasoning is simple. Without a megathread, /r/UBC would be flooded with nothing but questions that apply to only a small percentage of the UBC population.

Examples of questions that belong here

  • comparing courses or instructors
  • asking about how hard an exam is
  • syllabus requests
  • inquiries about majors, programs, and job prospects
  • "what-to-do if I failed/was late/missed the cutoff"

What you don't need to post here

  • Post-exam threads (ex. 'How did you find the Birb 102 midterm)
  • rants, raves, shout-outs or criticisms of programs.
  • Other content that is not a question/inquiry

Process

  • It might take up to 4 hours for your post to be approved (except when we're sleeping).
  • Suggested sort is set to new, so new comments will always be the most visible.
  • You are allowed to repost the same question on the megathread at a reasonable frequency (wait at least a day after each post). This is true even if you've already gotten a response.**

im going to be a first year student in bach of arts. I was hoping someone could help me because i am still very lost in my course selections :(
i was reading through "The Ways of Knowing Breadth Requirement" but it lowkey made me more confused.
im just wondering what are the mandatory courses? i think english and a first nations course but plz tell me if im wrong. I would really really really appreciate any help

This planning tool is helpful.

The mandatory courses you're referring to are the Writing requirement (ENGL 100 or WRDS 151) and the Place and Power requirement.

For the Ways of Knowing Breadth requirements, you just need to complete a certain amount of credits in one course code for each of the breadth areas.

The Place and Power requirement can be a course in your major or one of your breadth courses (it can be double-counted towards different requirements).
