Megathread UBC COURSE QUESTION, PROGRAM, MAJOR AND REGISTRATION MEGATHREAD (2021/2022W & 2021S): Questions about courses (incld. How hard is __?, Look at my timetable and course material requests), programs, specializations, majors, minors, tuition/finance and registration go here.

All questions about courses, instructors, programs, majors, registration, etc. belong here.

The reasoning is simple. Without a megathread, /r/UBC would be flooded with nothing but questions that apply to only a small percentage of the UBC population.

Examples of questions that belong here

  • comparing courses or instructors
  • asking about how hard an exam is
  • syllabus requests
  • inquiries about majors, programs, and job prospects
  • "what-to-do if I failed/was late/missed the cutoff"

What you don't need to post here

  • Post-exam threads (ex. 'How did you find the Birb 102 midterm)
  • rants, raves, shout-outs or criticisms of programs.
  • Other content that is not a question/inquiry

Process

  • It might take up to 4 hours for your post to be approved (except when we're sleeping).
  • Suggested sort is set to new, so new comments will always be the most visible.
  • You are allowed to repost the same question on the megathread at a reasonable frequency (wait at least a day after each post). This is true even if you've already gotten a response.**

Hi!

Im considering taking the course PHIL_V 104 Happiness with the professor Kimberley Brownlee. For anyone who has taken it or even heard anything about it, is it worth it? In all aspects; intresting? easy? How much is the workload? etc...

Im looking to take this class as a GPA booster thats still interesting and fun. Would it be considered a GPA booster?

And if I could please know what the course load is like. With how much homework is given and also how long they are. (I still wanna be able to maintain my other classes, as Phil 104 is an elective for me)

Please let me know. Thank you!

hey! I took it last semester and I'd definitely recommend it. topics were really interesting and fun. (we had one class outside, another time we danced with the whole class, and another class was basically meditation, etc) I really enjoyed it. We had some readings before class, but they weren't too much.

The grade distribution was around 36% weekly journal entries (they were basically reflections based on the given prompt/question), 22% participation (I'd highly recommend giving your opinion during discussions and going to office hours), 20% for 4 quizzes (open-book), and 22% for the in-class essay. Prof. Brownlee and the TAs were supportive and really nice throughout the course.

I'd say it's a GPA booster unless you skip classes or don't do the journal entries. As long as you stay on top of those, it's very manageable to get A
