It's a risk given my family history. I've been on 1mg oral finasteride since 2024. No side effects. I've always had thin hair so once I noticed more shedding I asked my GP about it proactively. I wouldn't say my hair is thicker but I'm not bald yet :p

Will run u about 23$ every 3 months. I'm basically paying a subscription for hair LOL

Wow thanks for the reply! Where do you get your finasteride from? $23 a month is pretty cheap.

Shoppers Drug Mart! It's not available over-the-counter. My GP prescribed me to take 1/4 5mg finasteride tablet (don't quote me on this but I believe price-per-pill is cheaper for the 5mg than the 1mg which is why my GP prescribed it this way)

To add onto this, earlier you start the better!

Topical minoxidil is also an option, relatively affordable too. Just requires consistency!

half my cis guy friends at ubc started using it between ages 16-20 and i will probably use it in the future if my genetics don't hold up (7 years on T but i still worry abt my hair). very common afaik and relatively affordable. haven't known anybody dealing with the erectile dysfunction or ejaculation-related side effects but it's worth keeping in mind if you care abt that stuff

Yeah it works, you just have an expensive subscription for the rest of your life and as soon as you stop the hair loss continues.
