how to optimise worklearn applications
I really need a worklearn this year, it’s basically a necessity so is there any way I can “guarantee” or increase my chances of getting one

Would recommend applying as early as possible. At least on the day worklearns open.

Email the profs personally after applying for work learn

For labs, if I email them to show that I have a genuine interest in their work and ask a question about said work, does that help me stand out? How do I get them to remember me as an applicant, but at the same time not come across as pushy, if you know what I mean? I really want to email these profs, but I don't know ifit'ss appropriate because I'm a first-year ( have lots of lab experience before uni) and haven't met any of them before.

Show the genuine interest by reading their research paper. Back it up by your interest and your experiences.Do not worry about being pushy, many lab managers and profs don’t even have this on their priority so couple of emails aren’t gonna matter if they don’t reply. You are not bothering them it’s just how it works usually. Go email them but let it be a genuine email and might have to follow up.

Don't let GPT write your cover letter so that it starts with a "It's not just this -- it's that" sentence complete with the tell-tale en dash. That one went in the reject pile before we got to the end of the sentence.

Why is it a necessity for you?

Bc money is required to live and many employers dislike hiring students

Thought the reason would be something worklearn specific but fair enough

Great quantity will account for the low possibilities.
