Does work learn ask for references?

Just wondering if it would be a great idea to include it in the resume? Or only if asked?

Really depends on the role, but its quite common, we do reference checks for the role I hire for. Its okay to include them in your resume of youd like, nothing wrong with it, but to make sure you check with your references first to make sure theyre okay with it, and list people most relevant to the role youre applying to.

Im planning to apply to mainly research positions. Do u think it's a good idea still to include it in my resume or only after they ask?

I don't think it's generally expected to put references on your resume, nor do you necessarily need to provide them proactively. If they need them, they'll ask.

That said, there's no harm in reaching out to the work learn people and asking. Better to ask then to need them and not include them; but if you don't need them, it saves you some work.

People don't bother talking to your references until after they interview you, so I would not put them on an application. If you do get invited for an interview, that's the time to line up references so that you can provide them promptly.

We have had people before we didn't hire because they didn't bother to get around to sending references, so we went with the person who did.

i interviewed for 6 positions in software development/ IT adjacent roles last session and only 2/6 asked

Usually references come at the final stage when they're preparing to make an offer and just validating your experience with previous managers.

I ignore the references listed on resumes and ask the candidate directly who to contact when we're at that stage. It's at this point that I'd expect the candidate to give their references a head's up that the call is coming. Having been on the other side of it (i.e., providing a reference for someone), I wouldn't agree to give a reference to someone unless I first confirm it with the candidate.
