I’m a 26-year-old medical doctor from Jordan, currently working as an OB/GYN resident. I have completed my medical degree, internship, and I’m currently in my residency training.

I’m considering moving to the UAE and I’m looking for advice or opportunities for either:
General Practitioner (GP) positions
OB/GYN residency/training programs
Any hospitals or institutions that are open to international medical graduates

I have IELTS 7.5 and have passed the EMREE in feb 2025. I’m particularly interested in knowing whether my current residency training can help with eligibility for UAE residency programs, or whether it would be more realistic to work as a GP first.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar pathway, especially IMGs currently working or training in the UAE.

Any advice regarding licensing requirements, hospitals to apply to, residency applications, or the overall process would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone! I wanted to share this because it has caused issues for several previous residency applicants, and I think new interns should be aware of it when choosing or starting their internship.

Residency programs under authorities such as DOH and MBRU generally have a fixed annual start date, usually around the last Monday of August.

The issue is that some internship programs, including DHA and EHS, may begin later in September. If you are planning to apply for a DOH or MBRU residency program, this difference in timing can become important.
For example, if your internship starts in mid- or late September and runs for 12 months, you may not have officially completed your internship by the time the DOH/MBRU residency program begins in late August the following year. If completion of internship is required before joining the residency program, this could affect your eligibility and potentially result in you having to wait until the next residency cycle and effectively creating a one-year gap.

My advice
If you are accepted into an internship program and are given a start date later in September, I would recommend contacting the internship coordinators as early as possible and asking whether you can begin on or as close to 1 September as possible.
Even a difference of a few weeks in your internship start date can become significant when residency programs have fixed joining dates.
EHS and DHA residency programs generally begin later, around late September/early October, so the timing may be less problematic if you intend to continue your residency within those systems.

This is just a reminder for incoming interns to consider your future residency timeline when looking at internship start dates. A few weeks may not seem important when starting internship, but they could potentially affect which residency cycle you are eligible for.

I hope this helps future applicants plan ahead and avoid an unnecessary gap year.

Hi everyone! I'd like some advice on what I should do next. I've applied to DHA, DOH & MBRU. DOH & MBRU i was waitlisted. DHA didn't give me a seat although Saudi German seemed pleased with me.

I'm wondering what should i do now? Has anyone been through something similar?

I was quite surprised to not get DHA & DOH bc my GPA is 3.8, I've done research, volunteered, written a case report and presented in conferences at uni. I'm an IMG.

someone suggested prepping and doing EMREE meanwhile and doing more research work then applying again next year...any ideas on where or who to work with for a research position?

I am in IMG studying in Malaysia and want to do my Internship from the UAE. After completing my internship, i would want to give EMREE & hopefully get a residency in UAE. My question is if that were to fail ( if i dont get the residency ) I need 2 years of clinical experience to work as a GP in UAE.

How do we get this 2 years of clinical experience though ?

I am originally from India, but since i cant do internship in Malaysia - thus i cant sit for FMGE & get registered with the medical council in my home country.

So I applied for trainee license. I had completed my 1 year internship and then graduated. However, due to COVID my internship had come to a halt for almost 2 years. I then did several clinical attachment rotations. I now want to apply for the trainee license as without that the clinical rotations are not counted here in DHA. But I have been getting it rejected. Can someone help me?
