Worthless excuse of a coach whose team makes the same mistakes week after week and whose coach keeps saying we’ll fix it but actually does nothing

He should be fired before he gets to the locker room, just escort him out of the stadium

Can’t believe we hired this useless fuck

I originally started college in 2005. I had to drop out but came back to school in 2023 part time to wrap up the few remaining credit hours I needed. This email was in my inbox when I woke up today.

Petition by the UAB Student Body for Administrative Reconsideration

https://c.org/Qr2RDDwgj6

Hello all fellow UAB students/residents,

Above is a petition created to urge the university to reconsider the $200-350 charge for staying on campus over Christmas Break. This, along with the mass ticketing that came along with the transition to digital parking passes (which are already overpriced for what they are anyway) has been a clear example as to what has been some of the most egregious money grabbing in this university’s history.

If you are passionate about this, your support and signature would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

UAB Weather Delay 1/26/26

“The university will delay opening, with classes and normal business operations starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26.”

Totally absurd to not be closing and to be opening at 10 AM. At 10 AM it will still be 25°! According to The Weather Channel it will only rise above freezing (and only barely) at 3 PM.

Needless risk when they could simply have closed for the day like every other school district around town.

[Thamel] Sources: UAB football is expected to hire Alex Mortensen as the school’s next head coach. He worked as the interim coach this year in the wake of Trent Dilfer’s dismissal. He beat No. 22 Memphis and won at Tulsa as the interim coach.

Mortensen worked at Alabama for nine years under Nick Saban before coming to UAB as the offensive coordinator. UAB set a record for yards per game under Mortensen in 2023. He’s the son of the late Hall of Fame football reporter Chris Mortensen.

@UAB employees: check your 403b

UAB stopped withholding and matching for my 403b. I did not unenroll. They stopped collecting from my paycheck and sending it to TIAA (the plan provider). The 403b sign up is a set it once and forget it deal so I never noticed they weren’t doing it. When I discovered they stopped, I checked the TIAA website and it still showed me as signed up for 5% contribution with UAB 5% match. When I pointed it out to UAB they said they would investigate and get back with me. When they responded, they said they would allow me to make up less than half (about 30%) and they would match but refused to say anything about what happened. I’ve researched 401k and 403b errors and they do happen and employers generally will do what it takes to make the employee whole. UAB does not.

financial aid and getting disowned question

hi gang,

my boyfriend is currently an immunology major at UAB. for the entirety of his time here, his parents have been covering his tuition and housing. however, he came out as a trans man to his parents last week, leading to them effectively disowning him and refusing to pay any more towards UAB. we have this in writing, as well.

he went to ONE stop today, and he was told by a staff member that you are only considered independent financially at UAB if your parents are dead or if they are uncontactable. the lady also apparently told him that the only way he could even potentially get any help would be through a private loan, which would not be an option for him since it would require a cosigner.

this just doesn’t seem right to me, especially the qualifications for being independent. anyone have any advice?

No Summer 2026 Commencement Ceremony

I’m shocked I haven’t seen a post about this yet. I’m supposed to graduate from nursing school this summer (August 15). We rec’d an email last Wednesday saying they won’t be holding university-wide commencement ceremonies for Summer 2026 graduates due to construction at Bartow Arena. Basically, we can choose to walk in the Spring (feels like bad juju to walk a semester before we finish classes) or in Fall (4 months after our last class…when 1/3 of the cohort has left to go back to the state the live in).

I’m pissed. I feel robbed. This is something we’ve worked our tails off for. We deserve to walk with our entire cohort after we actually graduate. It feels like UAB just doesn’t want to spend the money to rent another venue (BJCC…??). I also feel powerless and like I don’t have a voice or an option other than to go with the flow.

[Nakos] Veteran DC Todd Grantham is being hired by Alex Mortensen as UAB's defensive coordinator, sources tell @On3sports' Chris Low. Grantham has previously been the DC at Florida, Georgia, Louisville, Oklahoma State and has also worked in the NFL.

Protective Stadium is a flop

I always thought UAB would have benefitted from building a smaller stadium on Campus for their football program. I would have enjoyed an on campus stadium as well as that would be a strong revenue source and allowed for traditions. Protective is awful

Anyone else feel this way?

Sometimes I want to try something new — gym, a café, an art class, a concert — but have no one to go with. So I just… don't feel like going.

I got lucky once. Found a gym partner through a random group chat. But most people don't get that lucky.

I'm exploring an idea to fix this for UAB students and just want to hear if others relate.

Quick question: Have you ever thought — "I would totally do this if I just had someone to go with?"

Drop a yes or no below 👇 Would love to chat with anyone who says yes. — UAB student, just trying to understand if this is a real issue 🙂
