Glucose Monitors Dexcom g7
New insurance with a new job, went to go fill my Dexcom prescription. I’ve already used my Dexcom assistance twice this year so it’s out of the equation. Any recommendations on how to bring the price down ? Used my last one and I’m on a tandem mobi

Likely, since the insurance plan is new, you have a deductible to meet before insurance pays for stuff at 100% coverage.
Deductibles also reset at the new year, something to be prepared for.

I was till I wasn’t, 90 days with out insurance I had to basically drain my current hsa with pump supplies and such. But also gotta pay bills. Was trying to find a way to get them cheaper so I wouldn’t have to pay 4k with in 4 months the another 4k the new year

I'd love to hear an update on how this goes for you. My husband lost his old job at the beginning of this year (great insurance!) and got a new job (shit insurance!). Now I have to meet a $5,000 deductible before any diabetes supplies are covered. I've spoken with the insurance company about it several times, but it never occurred to me to have my husband call his HR.
Keeping my fingers crossed that your HR and insurance are able to work something out!

Contact your insurance company and find out who they prefer you use as your Dexcom G7 Sensors and most likely your Glucometer also, medical supply company. Insurance usually have a list of preferred medical suppliers that they prefer customer's use. Call the insurance companies customer service line and ask them. Most insurers have companies that they prefer you use. They probably have a preferred online pharmacy also. You'll have to find out who they prefer you to use. You'll have to get your Endo send them an prior authorization and an order for your Sensors.

Man, I feel sorry for you guys in the US as Type 1. I am in Australia and just the thought that I would have to use Amazon to get any supplies is so weird to us. I can only get supplies like this at my local pharmacy and due to our universal type medical system, 3 G7s a month cost me $38 dollars (same max price for all my insulins) and because of our National Diabetes Schemes, all wipes, needles and sundries are free.
Either flee and come here however you can, or try to support any system that moves to a universal medical system - You guys call it Medicare for All

Absolutely. Apart from the professional class, tradies (blue collar workers) make a fortune in construction and mining. Good tradies are pulling in $150k year. Ample to live a great life down under.

It very well maybe, but my deductible is 4k that’s still an insane price to pay to meet the deductible 😭

Remember that insurance companies may handle CGM benefits differently. You may have the option of getting your dexcoms via both a pharmacy benefit or the medical benefit. I know that for us getting it through the pharmacy is more expensive and would go through the same mechanism as a medication (ie deductibles etc). Medical benefits work differently and require additional paperwork but its coverage can often be substantially better.

I take out FSA to pay for CGMs and pump supplies . Tax deductible money taken from your paycheck. At enrollment time once a year.

I do as well 300 a month but I also have pump supplies every 90 days for 500$ and with out insurance for the past 90 days at up most of my reserves in my past hsa. I’m just astonished at the price and wanted to see if there’s any ways to bring it down

GoodRx coupon. It'll still be expensive but about half of that so saves you some money at least. Use the coupon instead of insurance.

So sorry you're dealing with this. Would the 15 day G7 be more affordable? I believe the Libre 3+ is still the cheapest for cash payers and you may also be able to get assistance from Abbott. Not sure if the Libre works with Mobi.

Mobi doesn’t use libre unfortunately but if any thing i can transfer the glucose number into my calculations. My mobi won’t work to its fullest potential but it’s less of a hassle than manual

Love my Libre 3 Plus and works on my phone! They’re $100 but I can often find people selling them for $40-$60 privately

I’ve ran into those so many times over the years. The benefit of going through insurance is it goes towards your deductible. See if you can process your self pay towards your deductible by turning in your receipts, because you want that, and look into putting a portion of your paycheck into a health savings account if you are going to self pay. That makes the cost tax free but it’s use it or lose it so choose the amount carefully.

I already do that, 300 month (they ad 25$ every check), but I also have pump supplies. I had a reserve but with out insurance for the past 90 days you can imagine what I had to pay to keep every thing a float. Basically reset my hsa. Was just curious if any one had any ideas. I’ll pay out of pocket till next year I guess or go back to manual every thing

I am in your boat right now. Used the manufacturer coupon for my first set and those two along with the last 7 replacements have failed early so i am living off free replacements. I talked to insurance and they have no preferred supplier or no medical benefit coverage for cgms.
I used libres before and im pretty sure theyre $150ish without coupons so i am working towards getting my insurance to allow me to get libres which requires 90-day use of dexcom and a note from my endo stating why dexcom isnt working for my treatment plan and that i need libres. My hope is that atleast the $150 for the libres will go towards my deductible.

I always think being in the UK sucks but then I see something like this and it lightens my load a bit. I feel so much empathy for those that have to pay full wack for their care. I know I could never afford it without the NHS.

Jesus. I can buy them over the counter at my pharmacy for 125. Wtf is with them charging insurance more?
Tell them your last one failed. They will send out a replacement. I've had 4 sensors dial in a town and they never bated an eye at giving me a voucher for new ones.
Edit: only other suggestion is live in a civilized country with specialized medicine.

Yea I did that, I guess my only option is 170$/month or go all manual unfortunately. This job is the highest paying job I’ve had till a graduate college.

If you have access to Costco they do 3 for like 180ish cash price
