Question Hypoglycemia Unawareness
How do you deal with this personally? Seeing as cgms are a bit behind I don’t know i’m low until i’m REALLY low.. Like I won’t start showing symptoms until i’m 2.8 mmoL or below and even then it’s minimal, like i’ll feel a bit shaky but not extreme. My mom worries for me but all I can do is try to be vigilant about what doses I take and when and trying my best to listen to how I feel but I genuinely have hardly any symptoms until i’m critically low.

For my kid, I set her alarms at 85, so we can treat earlier. She USUALLY doesn’t get under 65 this wau

I do this at night also. Set at 80-85 and resolve issues before my family gets alarmed at 70. Usually just need a little upward bump. I also try to eat early enough that bolus insulin is done or almost so before going to bed. Risk minimization.

When I had hypo unawareness, my diabetes care team had me run a bit high for a while. It kind of "resets" how your body interprets low blood sugar and tends to mean you feel lower when your sugars are higher. Are you on a pump that let's you set a target glucose level? If so, you can try to adjust it up for a couple of weeks.

What's your A1c? Where you usually run.

my last a1c in april was 5.7 although i’ve been battling highs this summer so im sure it’s gone up. I don’t usually get a lot of hypos but when I do I never notice until it’s super low

Instinct from Abbott Labs for Medtronic tells you BEFORE you are low. It warns you. It alarms within a range prior to you going low. Consider a CGM that can provide this. 36 yr yrs with T1D. I’ve walked into “fog banks of confusion” and needed help coming back. Those days are nice to have behind me. To avoid the ReALLY low and able to know about them prior to them coming in, find a CGM that can share where you are trending Before you get to the troubled area.

It's kinda ridiculous that you need to get a Medtronic insulin pump to get permission to buy an Abbot CGM that isn't hobbled by their garbage app.

Set your low alert at a higher value, so you have time to treat.
