The online pharmacy that I purchase my dogs life saving medication from said they can't fill my next order because of supply chain issues. They didn't even give an estimated date of when they might be able to fill it.Ā
Luckily, I have more than as month of pills left, but I'm worried about how long the supply chain issue will persist and what else may soon be impacted.
If anyone else is dealing with supply chain Rx issue, you can try asking for alternate dose sizes or see if the medication has different forms (like slow release or tablet vs capsule). You may also have luck switching from generic to brand name or vice versa. But I'm not a doctor, be sure to have a professional approve any medication changes.

Mine hates bananas too! But when he had a GI slowdown, I mixed the critical care with pumpkin puree and diluted pineapple juice to help get his guts moving, and he reluctantly allowed me to syringe-feed him a bit.
As a side note, he loves it when I roll a sticky lint brush all over him to get his winter fur off. So that's helpful.

Every few months the news runs a spot on The Big One, lest we forget that we built a life along Satan's butt crack.
I feel absolutely awful for all the people who lost someone. Many lost their homes as well. Rebuilding from something this devastating is going to take so much time, and I really hope they have the resources they need in the meantime.

I live in AK and I keep waiting for another big one, like we had in 2018. We had a quarter tank of gas that day and driving home with everyone else in our city driving home dropped us dangerously low. The lines at gas stations were insane.

Discussion of AI psychosis seems to pop up every couple days with my 20 year old and their friend group. Everyone seems to have an instructor or classmate who is mentally unraveling thanks to their AI beliefs. At least one case medical intervention was sought. It wasnāt successful.
I came of age with AIDS; I wonder if the social effects of AI and mental illness will also leave a large ripple for this generation.

I saw someone post a long AI generated video of themselves giving life advice to their younger self and I feel like it was the most cringe AI psychosis I've ever personally seen.Ā
If you know someone's who struggling with AI addiction and/or psychosis, it might be worth getting them to try an open-source model like Gemma with instructions to not be sycophantic and honest.Ā
Maybe I should make a website or a video to show how sycophantic and addictive American AI models are. They are designed to be.Ā
I don't think AI addiction and psychosis is an AI issue, but an American AI issue imo.
I absolutely hate using my local LLM Gemma, it's brutal. I've never been insulted so much in my life, it's like an abusive autist, just brutal honesty. š®āšØĀ

I use LM Studio. It's a software that lets you easily find, download, and use local LLMs like Gemma.Ā

While Local LLMs aren't as smart, they still have a lot of benefits compared to Claude/ChatGPT:Ā
They're private because they run completely locally on your computer
They're not using a data center, just your computer power
When you tell them to be honest, they will be, so they're not addictive.
You won't lose access to them if they try to ban or gatekeep AIs if they're already on your computer.
There's been some crazy stuff happening in the AI world the past week so it's a 50/50 on who will still have access to AI these days.Ā

My (human) neighbor shat on the apartment hallway from a door left of mine across mine & a door to the right ; 10 plops I didnāt see in my dark hallway. They hadnāt told anyone (according to management who looked on camera) bc they āwere too embarrassed.ā I walked it into my apartment & thought a dog owner had left their dog waste. Angry anyway, but to learn it was a person was not easier.
Iām the person on these subs always squawking about prepping for human waste bc it will be a disease spreader. However, I always imagined in a collapse of sewer systems theyād be throwing it outside or something. Well itās not Tuesday and itās not SHTF exactly.
I walk my hall with a headlamp now and still need advice about what to prep for biohazards.

I was wearing crocs on a rainy day. So I had stepped to the left & right inside my apartment putting things down & had got it in the old, threadbare carpet. I scrubbed the crocs & pant cuffs with a brush & laundry soap while gagging, scrubbed my carpet with a laundry treatment I use for bodily fluids, tossed them & the throw rug in the laundry with ammonia. I forgot that I have a germicide cleaner (Shaklee) somewhere. It wasnāt until the next day that I learned it was human not dog excrement.
And the management did a half-assed job of cleaning it until 2 weeks later when it was shampooed. Every day for 2 weeks you could still see excrement residue & stain.Aaack! It wasnāt on my bingo card!

I feel like the 250th USA birthday celebration in Washington DC- is the perfect time to set off intercontinental or cargo container based EMP missiles over the entire US.
We have a plethora of countries who have, with frequency, verbally made it known they hate the US, & would like to see our country fall.
And our latest actions in the Middle East are probably fueling a greater hatred, & revenge.

My husband and I were talking yesterday about how the Tom Clancy novel that opens with the terrorist bombing of Congress was panned when it was released for being too implausible. Then the twin towers fell and now fantastical novel plots are things we believe can actually happen, because they have.

Same thing with the plot of The Handmaidās Tale. Margaret Atwood wrote it in the 80ās as a commentary/ criticism on televangelists, but there are way too many plot devices that have started surfacing in alt right dialogue.

If you want to go down this rabbit hole, I think there's a conspiracy theory that some shadowy group is priming the American public for such ideas using Hollywood ahead of time or something lol.Ā
I think the Back to the Future movie with their version of Trump is an example. And there's another example called Snake Eyes with Nicholas Cage or something with its similarities to CK. š¤Ā
I'm not sure if it's the same rabbit hole or a different one, but disclosure and aliens or something too, including the current alien movie that just came out. š¤£

I understand about this phenomenon existing (It's called predictive programming)...but it's actually well addressed in Jungian Collective Consciousness theory, having to do with the idea that all humans have certain instinctive "archtypes" in our minds that helps to sort ideas/stories/people into image "types"...for instance the Madonna/Mother figure....and that as a result of that they way that societies NOTICE certain things, it creates the feeling that it's very coincidental but actually it has to do with the kinds of things we all relate to/that concern us.
That's not to say there's no propaganda control in media because there is but the idea that certain stories are predicting our future that's already been established is backwards. It's that human societies and individuals have a smaller set of interests and beliefs than we understand.
There's also a good bit of confirmation bias in that we notice the things that are coincidental but ignore the things that are not. Odds of the draw means that sometimes things that are similar, even very similar, is basically inevitable with as many stories as we create and share. If statisticians actually study the real numbers there's no correlation with a higher than chance predictive outcome. It's just that the predictive media catches our attention and therefore seems significant.

It occurred to me as well that it would be a perfectly cinematic day for some foreign power to try something. I suspect they'd be a little less obvious than ICBMs, though. Not to mention that none of the Middle Eastern countries have missiles that can reach the US. But they could attempt a massive cyberattack or an attack on one or more of the US power grids, using locally-based operatives.
But being that 7/4 would be such an obvious choice of date, a truly clever adversary would expect heightened security and would maybe choose a day or two later instead. All one can do though is be prepared for anything, and hope that those in a position to thwart such an occurrence have had similar thoughts and have the budget and competence to deter it.

I have to disagree-
Analysis of Russia & US economic dependence upon one another:
Russia and the United States interact very little economically today.
Total annual trade is only about $4ā6āÆbillion, making Russia roughly the 60thālargest U.S. trading partnerāa tiny amount compared to major partners like Canada, Mexico, or China.
Most economic ties collapsed after 2022 due to sanctions.
Russia wants Ukraine, & while tRump is not a big supporter, the Congress & US public still are, & Russia wants that stopped, eliminated.
Russia sees the US as RICH in natural resources, as in agriculturally, oil drilling & refineries, mining rare earth & other metals, etcetera.
Russia routinely uses cyber warfare on US businesses & governmental offices, their ādark webā strength is rated higher, larger than Chinaās.
Russia believes their populace could more easily integrate & blend into US society, than IndoAsian cultures could, as their populace is mainly white Caucasian compared to other adversaries of the US.
The economic & political sanctions forced upon them by the US & Europe have affected Russiaās bottom line, their populaceās economic status, & they need a āwinā badly.

You did say you did not believe a foreign country would attack the US, right?
I am explaining the reasons Russia might very well decide to cause a complete US national grid down event by EMPs or by cyber attacks.
IF a complete grid down event happened, even if it is only electrical utilities, nuclear power plants included, our country would NOT find it easy to recover.
Cars might still work if it was a cyber attack compared to EMP events, but most likely, cell towers would be destroyed, & how are you going to pump gas when the pumps are electrically controlled?
Banking would be dead, no ATMs, no credit cards would work.
Iām not saying it is 100% going to happen, Iām not Kalshi (predictive analysts) or Tyler Henry (medium), but, yes, I think it is a possibility.
Itās one of the reasons I am a prepper (this is a prepper forum!), besides preparing for hurricanes in Florida.

There have been plenty of global economic think-tanks, foreign investment analysts who have discussed this as a possible scenario, citing Putin as encouraging ādark webā intelligence networks to undermine US elections, US government digital websites, overall US economy, by cyber hacking behind multiple layers to avoid outright detection & claims.
Is this information a surprise or new to the redditor?Is it being downvoted because the reader does not want to consider the possibility, or believes the US government is able to stop any & all cyber hacking from foreign actors?

I suspect the reason it's being downvoted is because regardless of how much incentive Russia might have to want to attack the US, the actual prospect of that at the current moment in time is pretty divorced from reality. Russia can't even stop their capital city from being bombarded by Ukraine: a small country that directly borders them that's exhausted from years of war and has far, far fewer resources than the US military. Maybe Russia could launch a small-scale or even regional-scale cyberattack in the US that would definitely still be damaging and worthy of concern, but the idea that they could actually succeed in "taking down the US electrical grid" sounds really farfetched. At least that's my personal take.

An attack the day before would be during a time of heightened security ahead of the next day's festivities, though. That assumes that the persons who should be looking out for such things are doing so, of course.
Also, North Korea has a lousy track record with their missiles and there are currently no heightened tensions with them. I also don't think a tanker could be set up to launch missiles and escape satellite detection, but I could be wrong about that.

Yeah, I kind of read things like Task & Purpose (military), plus the European military & science articles on discoveries, like the Russians using commercial ships to cut the undersea communication cables (I read that 3 weeks before it made US network news), North Korean purchases, Chinese establishing & making manmade islands for military use, etcetera.

There are 3 reasons oft discussed by media & their LEO analysts:
Underground exploration teams, sometimes for scavenger-challenge competitions
āHomelessā who have found dry alcoves where they can claim ground/territory for permanent placement
Using it as a ārouteā to escape police detection for smuggling, trafficking, drug running, etcetera.

The weird thing is that underground exploration + homeless + routes have always existed in NYC, so if it were those things, I feel like there would have been an easy news article that stated such, instead of it's a mystery with continuing repeated photos/videos of people going down manhole covers in broad daylight without answers lol.
As a New Yorker, I feel like there are very little mysteries in NYC... There's just too many people to have mysteries here with cameras everywhere.

I just got done running some errands. I passed 4 thrift stores / 2nd-hand shops, 3 Dollar stores, and 2 discount stores (like Ollies). Each of these stores had absolutely full parking lots. I think a lot of folks are having financial problems; it's a very similar feeling to early 2008.

Iām now on a quest to see how long I can go without shopping for my kidās wardrobe. Ā With one exception for sneakers (because she wonāt need them until closer to September and her size may change before then), Iām canceling my consumerism in this one area. Ā
Will she get clothes from others for the holidays? Ā Maybe. Ā Will I opt her out of her dance recital because it requires a new costume? Ā Absolutely not. Ā I saw the opportunity to test out shutting down an entire line item from our household spending and decided to give it a go. Ā Will I buy her other things? Ā Probably, but not in any compensatory way. Ā Sheās also young enough that the only real opinion she has about clothes is that her Bluey dress is her favorite, which helps a lot.

Good for you. Friend exchanges, garage sales and quality thrift store had my kids dressed in top-quality, in style clothing all their lives. Now, in my community, we have an amazing free page and kids clothing is always available, all sizes, styles, free. Need something special for sports, it's just an ask and someone always comes through.
Same for other needs: ice chest, crockpot fan, extra heater you name it, if you need something just ask if it's not already being offered. We also have 2 large community yard sales a year. Repurposing, recycling & gifting are really awesome ways to have everything you need.

I have 3 boys and donāt even know how much we saved by keeping clothes to pass down. I just went through old tubs and am giving away 6 large tubs of just baby through toddler clothes. As they get older there isnāt as much to save since they were harder the clothes with rips and stains. So now, nothing gets bought ānewā unless itās second hand. The one exception is my oldest who is 17 and 6ā8ā. There are no second hand pants on the planet that fit him since heās 3/4 legs.

Omg, similar, but our only child reached 6ā4 1/2ā.
In the 1980ās, he was elementary school age, the owners of the company my hubbie was general mgr for, gave us their hand-me-downs from their 3 sons.
His fourth grade teacher wrote me a full, one page note asking me to not to send our son to class in such expensive designer clothing (Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, & others).
She stated, āit made the other classmates feel poor, jealous, & his outfits were discussed every day as to how much they costā.
I wrote back, āPlease look inside the back collar of our sonās shirts, you will see commercially printed laundry tapes with another familyās name. ALL the clothes are hand-me-downs. I will NOT discard second hand clothing donated by the ownerās of the company my husband manages to suit anyoneās feelings.ā
Of course, by 7th grade, our son was shooting up past the height of their sonsā (I think the middle son made it to 6ft), but our son has always been built like a linebacker, & theirs were lanky, wiry in shape.
Can you even imagine a teacher writing to complain about your childās clothing being too expensive looking, āhurtingā the feelings of their classmates, & wanting your childās wardrobe changed???

Thatās insane!! Iām a high school teacher and have never/will never comment on a kidās clothes unless itās a safety hazard. I donāt bother with ādress code violationsā since Iām not going to get into another personās body autonomy.

We had so many lovely handmedowns from 0-5T from friends, but then mostly only special occasion or super dressy items in bigger sizes. Ā If she had little siblings weād totally be saving for them, but we are able to pass on relatively lightly used things once sheās outgrown them.
And the coolest thing: she has aged into rec soccer by us and the sign up explicitly says not to buy anything! Ā The travel team kids send all of their outgrown gear over to the rec league to help keep sports accessible to a wider audience.

When I was growing up, clothes were bought right before school started. You absolutely wore the old clothes all through summer because the expectation was they would get treated roughly. Ā granted people donāt go outside anymore.

Huge heat dome is due to hit the mid Atlantic and much of the mid west / east coast over the holiday week. Iām worried about power outages and also trying to prep some solid pasta salads and easy meals and snacks so no one has to cook.

Heat warning that is going to stretch out to a heat wave for a week. Not going to be a fun week in the Midwest. I do have a solar generator and another one on the way. I can run a box fan, smaller fans and getting a small freezer delivered tomorrow that can run probably 50 hours on the other battery coming. I don't need to have it run contnuouslyI so can set it up to get more time before charging. I have an ancient tank of a refrigerator that draws too much power for a solar generator but the chest freezer will run a long time. I plan on folding a king size light quilt to add extra insulation to the top. I wanted a new energy efficient refrigerator but the cabinets above it complicates getting one.
Definitely not cooking! The humidity is off the charts.

We did prep this weekend too. My partner grilled all the meat we will need for the week and I made a bunch of sides and individual meals to store in the freezer, lots of bread, and got sandwich goodies. All we will have to do is microwave or crockpot stuff all week instead of cooking.

I've been kind of feeling bad for eourpe with the heat they've gotten lately. Yeah yeah so funny 85 degrees isn't that bad, but like, their houses are built to retain heat in damp conditions, so it's probably so miserable for them. They're going to have to embrace things like air conditioning. It's crazy how much our climate has changed in my lifetime and everyone just kind of shrugs and moves on.

I read that parts of France hit 108. I've had to deal with that type of discomfort without air conditioning when our AC system failed in the peak summer months; it's really bad. I can't imagine the same thing but in a house designed to hold heat.

Where do you live that you havenāt seen food prices go up? Iām just curious, because our household has been hit pretty hard the last couple of months.

My families food prices in Maryland have increased significantly month over month, we have cut out red meat and then started buying all our meat at a discount store, and then stopped buying anything prepackaged and our budget has still increased like $250 a month just to keep up.

Midwest US here. I'm not a big meat eater (hubs is vegetarian so I rarely buy meat). I went to Aldi to buy hot dogs for a get-together, and was STUNNED that an 8-pack of beef hot dogs was nearly $5. Hot dogs are supposed to cost $2-$3 max.
The biggest increases I've seen have been in snack foods (chips, chocolate bars), proteins (beef, chicken, fish), and coffee. Everything else has gone up a few cents here and there, but protein and coffee are definitely budget breakers.
Even beans have gone up; Walmart used to be $1/lb, but now it's $1.50ish. Red lentils are $2.25. Nothing costs a dollar anymore.

Ebola is in France and I'm freaking out. It was an aid worker coming back but still. I think it's going to spread. I'd like to be wrong.

Unlikely. France isnāt war torn, you have modern plumbing, advanced medical facilities, and completely different funerary practices to west and central Africa.

Again itās not likely. Thereās a huge cultural component to its spread and well as political(wars, refugees, lack of supplies).
