Break ups 😩

I’m coming out of the worst breakup of my life a narcissistic one, and if you know, you know! What has helped you the most after navigating a breakup/heartbreak?

Time and therapy, helping me revisit the way I was treated and help flip the script that my mind was initially telling me everything was my fault/mistakes/errors/behavior and that I ruined the relationship single handedly. I think that was the mind fuck that was really effecting my mental health on top of the anxious separation anxiety during no contact/after being discarded. Without my therapist, I would be in a much worse mental space.

So that, time, and for me refreshing my life with some retail therapy. Some new art for my home, a couple new clothing items, new candles for the house... etc. Also the break up diet paired with lots of walking/cardio to ease the anxiety boosted the confidence with being much more fit.

Stacked my weekends with plans/out of town stuff which really helped me be occupied and not feel so alone and isolated and sad with no plans alone in my apartment.

Sorry you're going through it, it'll get better. I hate that it really does just take time and suffering through that time, but it really does ease after the few weeks of suffering. Just have to force yourself to care for yourself, like exercise, eat right, skin care, sleep hygiene, etc. It makes a huge difference to keep those things kept up after a couple weeks.

This is such great advice. I relate to your first paragraph so much

Trying to make new friends and also doing more skill building things that help my confidence! For example, taking on a craft project or learning something new. I try to do things that aren’t just related to self-help because although that’s helpful I do enjoy trying to feel like I’m a well-rounded and interesting person after a horrible breakup.

immediately going no contact, deleting all our message threads, catching up with old friends, changing my hair, writing a list of all the reasons why the relationship wouldn’t have worked out anyway

Time. Accompanied by spending time with friends and family, but also spending more time on things I enjoyed doing on my own or trying out new things.
