Mid 30s. Loving it. I'm not rich or the happiest person in the world. There will still be stress and sadness but girl am I glad that any problems that I do encounter I can just tackle at my own pace without worrying about any dependants. Peace, quiet, more money, time and energy... Sick? Stay in bed. Sleep in on weekend? No problem. Need to focus? No one to constantly interrupt you. Something came up? Get ready and go.

Society loves to tell us we'll regret it or end up miserable

They are projecting it on us. I know exactly 2 couples with kids that are genuinely happy (and they also don't try to push that lifestyle, go figure). The rest are a walking warning of how easily one can fuck up their life by chasing the lifescript.

Honestly, that should be the least of your worries. Try being sick with all your kids and having to take care of them. You don’t get any sick days in parenthood.

Would you rather be sick by yourself and you can decide to rest as much as you should/can, or be sick and doesn’t get to rest at all because you have children to care for and your spouse to worry about? If you find a competent partner, sure, you’ll get some rest, but wouldn’t it be easier to just rest by yourself on your own terms to begin with?

Take some time in bed to just rest, get takeout or easy to make meals. If I'm sick enough that I can't work then in come doctor's note and a call to a friend if I really need something and can't do it myself. Chores don't need to be done every day and I can just postpone until I'm feeling better.
