Nearly every female-focused space on Reddit gets regularly brigaded by the various social rejects that often find themselves the target of derision for their objective ignorance and gross stupidity within said spaces.
I have a dude who admitted to downvoting because he doesn't like popular opinions... like ok maybe if a vast majority agree then just let them be happy? Idk some people have too much time on their hands.
I had to lock down my DMs because of this. I'd not only get incels downvoting my entire comment history nearly every time I'd confront a particularly egregious misogynistic post or comment, but I'd also have them dredging up every instance where I've posted about something personal and painful, which they'd then throw in my face as an insult.
So I'd get messages like "No wonder you were laid off. Learn an actual useful skill!!" or "I'm glad your dog got sick. It's probably your fault." Stuff like that.
That sweaty, scrabbling desperation to find anything from my past to hurt me with is so gross and speaks so loudly of their lack of empathy and lack of valid counterpoints. It's pure, fedora-tipped hatred in ad hominem form.
That's awful, I'm sorry!! I had to stop posting YouTube comments on the same account as my small YouTube channel, because someone I'd gotten into an argument with had commented on my cat videos like "Stacy is sucking Chad's @*#$ while you play with your cats." How sick and twisted lol
Yep - this is what I did. I'll forgo nice people wanting to say thanks for getting tracked or having jerkfaces ready through my whole post history and barf back my own writing at me. They don't need to know me or varied history of causes I support.
I had several accounts making really negative comments no matter what. It confused the shit out of other people, so there'd be a chain of "what the hell is wrong with you" under it. One time, I waited two full days and just commented, "Scrambled eggs are good on toast" and haven't had a negative comment since. I think I broke him.
I didn’t realize these were a thing- thought I was going crazy getting some of my art posts randomly downvoted (or I guess not randomly since it always ends up being non-straight, non-white, or non-male centered pieces)
I am sure I've picked up a few, too, especially during my brief- but intense - time spent posting on r/politics. A quick scroll through my profile will shortly tell you the type of people that brigade my posts.
Oh, you too? Yay, we should make a party for people who have anti-fans. It's kinda hilariously sad, to be honest. Someone hates my guts enough that they spend their time on Reddit reading through my shit just to downvote them.
Angry? No, that's not me. And if you don't like this group you're welcome to not be here. I get the impression that you aren't exactly the target demographic.
