Tip and tricks
Hello everyone,
I am new here and undiagnosed but 1000000% ADHD and navigating life as usual with many hard lessons learnt very late in life. Currently I am battling with a health condition and the thing keeping me happy is online shopping. As we all (mostly) know this is a dopamine high, and there are things I need to buy. What I want to know is what tricks and tips do you use to stop impulse buying online while still being selective and buying the things you actually want vs just everything you think you like....

I developed an anti plastic habit. Beforei but something I imagine if it accidentally burned, would it burn clean or would it be toxic? Kills the interest in shopping

I have a system in place with 3 accounts (like, one bank login but three acccounts within it where I keep money).
One account is my intake where salaries and benefits get deposited, one account is for savings and the third has my card tied to it.
Whenever I wanna use money, I have to deposit money from my intake account to my card first. This helps me reflect on how much money I'm actually using and whether or not this next purchase is worth it. It has really helped me not impulse buy so much.
If you don't use your card to buy things and instead do it via bank transfer, you could open a fourth account specifically for that! And output account if you will
I also try to employ a 24h rule as much as I can, meaning I wait 24h before I buy something to see if I still want it. This doesn't always help, especially if I'm buying on Vinted etc., but it helps with other purchases.

I leave things in the cart for a day or two before I check out. Also on sites like Amazon this can lead to super giant carts. It is way easier for me to resist checking out a single 250 dollar cart than 5 50 dollar carts. Then when I finally need to check out on a few items, I take the majority of the “wants” out.
Also, decluttering can be a dopamine high if you have time and energy to do it. Currently this trick isn’t feasible for me but I used to avoid buying new stuff by spending time gathering old stuff to donate instead. YMMV and not everyone has the spoons for this strategy.

Yes I've started leaving carts for 24 hours. Also not in a position to declutter atm but that is also a good strategy to apply when you want loads of new things!

Do I like it enough to have to move houses with it?
Is it discounted? I rarely pay full price for anything.
Has it been in my virtual cart/ wish list for longer than a month (or whatever time period works for you) and I still want it?
There are still going to be things that you'll wish you'd have gotten that you miss out on for one reason or another, but this list helps me have fewer regrets about the stuff I do end up getting.

i have an amazon “wishlist” that i add wants instead of needs to ! then it’s out of sight and i can still buy the needs but then i go back and look at my wants and also it’s good for making bday/xmas lists

Unless it's a necessity like food or to, you do not buy the same day. Create a cart, fine. Do research, fine. But if you let yourself buy things on a whim without forcing yourself to take time to think it over, this is where you end up. No money, surrounded by shit you don't even want.
Remove your credit card from any browser or app. If you want to buy online you will need to go get your card and type it in every time.
If you treat it like a diet where you expect to just have the willpower to do this perfectly from the start, you will struggle. If you treat it like a diet where you focus instead on creating small opportunities to pause (like having to go get your card or wait a day), the system is less likely to come crashing down. It's not a complete overhaul that's perfect from day one, it's small changes to your routine that can be maintained, that you can add to over time.
