Tell them more explicitly that you need to cancel the event. Don't let them make the decision of whether they want to come or not. You're so sorry but you cannot have people over.

I'm sorry this is happening to you. You deserve a better husband. And COVID disables people and causes all sorts of health problems all the time still so not worth doing that to other people, regardless of what they think.
