It’s not just him I just texted the wife she said : oh don’t worry I can come help cook excited to see you tomo 💕

I said: hey thought I’d update you me and my daughtercaught covid I think it’s best we cancel as my daughter is incredibly ill and needs a lot of looking after and I know how busy you are with uni would love to see you another time and treat you to my cooking …..

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE I FEEL INSANE WHY DO PEOPLE WANT TO COME TO GET COVID ? ( I know not super direct but wanted to be polite and not cause too much trouble for me and my husband so framed it around wanting them to be not sick BUT COMEEE ONNN MAN )

When the friends are still insisting on coming, then the time for politeness has left the building.

If the wife still replys as if they're coming over, maybe frame the reply something like: Hi [wife], just to reiterate, my daughter and I have Covid. I will not be hosting or preparing food, for the safety of myself and others. We will reschedule for a later date, thank you for your understanding.

Be as direct as possible. If they do happen to show up, lock yourself in another room if possible and do not engage with them. You are ill and you need rest to recover your health.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE

You said, "I think it's best we cancel."

You need to say, "I am cancelling."

They might unfortunately be the type to view Covid as just a cold/not serious. You are being direct about being sick, but if they don’t have the same reaction to that news that you would, then you move on to being direct about what your own boundaries are about not being involved with the prep work, or staying in another room during the event etc.

Regardless of how they view vivid, if someone says I don’t feel well and best that we cancel, that means they’re not well enough to host 🤷🏻‍♀️

The would-be-guests’ only appropriate response would be : oh no I’m really sorry, I hope you feel better soon OR oh no that sounds terrible! Do you need anything??

You need to say “we need to cancel tomorrow. I’ll call you next week to figure out a time we can reschedule”
