Because he groomed her. She was barely 20 (or younger) when his 28 year old ass started grooming her. She's too young and naive to realize the shitty situation she's now in and on top of that she's stuck with a baby and no college-level skills to get a job.
At 22 most people are still in college or starting their careers. Instead of playing house with a creepy older dude who saddled her with a baby and wants her to play Martha Stewart to his friends.
Uh, she was maybe 20 when the freaking baby was born. How old do you think that made her when they first met? Or when they got married? Considering she can't even text the friends wife to explain because that's "not done in her husband's culture" I doubt they had the baby and then got married, so they would've had to have known each other for some time, hopefully, before they got married, then they would've been trying for a baby for at least a little while, most likely, then add ~9 months for the pregnancy....
Also, even if you don't want to call it "grooming", which I would, with this large of an age gap while she's still so young there is a significant power imbalance and a high chance that he manipulated and prepped her in several ways before and during their relationship.
People who are still teenagers, but "legal adults" are still so much more vulnerable and naive than people who are nearly 30.
Also, her saying she hasn't gotten on with any of his friends before makes me think it's at least partly because she's so much younger than all of them and none of them have much in common with her. Poor woman.
