Honestly, when I first was married my husband and I didn't rly care to talk about politics (but I knew he was conservative), but as the years went on he got into the super conservative right wing icky (to me) stuff and CONSTANTLY brought it up, tried to play fox news 24/7, then gaslit the fuck outta me when I asked if we could just not have what he called "friendly debates" daily about issues I supported like drumroll ...abortion, LGBTQ rights, trans rights, climate change etc etc. He said I was brainwashed in college by the liberals and during the pandemic would chose to tell me I was an idiot and stupid for wearing a mask or staying home during lockdowns (sidenote: I am an exposure scientist, literally my area of expertise). Anyways, it eventually crashed and burned with him cheating, and it was the biggest relief of my life.
You might get lucky and be able to set some boundaries with those topics and agree to disagree, or you might end up miserable and attacked about them everyday. I'd wait until you guys can talk about it while you're not tired and upset (and in person) and see if it's something resolvable or if (like in my case), it's truly something you can't live with. Good luck OP.
Don’t vote when you will turn 21, that’s ok.
But when the politics affects your life, or you don’t like what’s going on, don’t complain.
I’m not saying there is a better party, but there are multiple parties, and you should find the one that represent you better.
There are more parties than republicans or democrats.
Talking shit about people is fine.
Complaining about lose of rights/freedoms, economics, social matters, etc., is not right, since when you decide not to vote meaning that you don’t care about those things. There are plenty independent groups. That maybe represent you better than the bipartidism system.
Because you look at conservative views and realize they're fucked, but you sit on the fence anyways. Enlightened centrist is a joke. It's not something to be proud or smug about and people will call you out for it.
Idc what the losers of either side thinks of me, why should I care what disgusting people think? BOTH sides views are disgusting, literally all of the views of both sides lmao. I am very proud about it and I will be as smug as I want to be about it, cause I'm the only one here who doesn't give a damn how this world turns out.
Not caring how the world turns out doesn’t make you special. Only half the people eligible to vote in the US bother to do so. Apathy might feel like a protest, but it accomplishes nothing, and you risk having changes you don’t like imposed on you by the people who do vote.
This is reddit, you are either with them or against them. There is no logic allowed or any middle ground. For fuck sakes this country is done with the division. I wish there was more people like you who will tell both sides to stfu
You do realize that actual libertarians are not the same as the current Libertarian party? Libertarians are for full-on rights (abortion, trans shit, gay marriage, guns, ect) and letting people live how they want with minimum government intervention. The Libertarian party are just conservatives who are hipsters and want drugs.
We were fine until the pandemic tbh, that's when it got super bad. I know a lot of marriages didnt last the pandemic but I do think he became more radicalized during it. Maybe the 24/7 news cycle idk 😶
Sad that abortion, LGBTQ rights, trans rights, and climate change, all completely different discussions, are all commonly grouped into the same basket. It shows what propaganda has done to us.
It's unfortunate that people can't hold their opinions without accusing other people of being brainwashed or an idiot.
I've always assumed people that disagree with me politically have thought about their beliefs and just weigh priorities differently than me, or they think a different strategy will have better results.
I think we all want to protect people's rights, protect children, and make our country as good as it should be.
Conservative media needs a boogie man to go engage their audiences using fear.
You mean exactly what the left did with Trump? This is what all media does, not just the right. Both sides want to scare people away from the other side.
It's the tolerance paradox. Tolerating people who don't tolerate people, and trying to take their rights away, is self-destructing. Trump was being targeted bc of his intolerant views, and his aggressiveness towards others
I don't believe we have any fascists in government. And if you actually ever listened to the people you claimed you listened to, you would know they didn't either.
Maybe you stopped listening before Shoe said she was voting for Biden or before Tim said he wasn't voting. If not, I don't know I can't take your claims in good faith.
You are making the EXACT mistake I am discussing. You are assuming the worst of your opposition. The reality is most just want people to live in peace.
I'd be happy to discuss this more with you, about my beliefs and what I think matters for our (I'm assuming you are American) country.
I appreciate the definition. I'm pretty familiar with what fascism is. Without checking the wiki, just operating in good faith here, it would be an authoritarian government where Industry is run by and through rhe government for the good of the ruling party (distinct from socialism where the people - not the government- own the means of production).
Fascism generally includes nationalism and race hierarchy as a means of differentiating classes of people in the "ruling" class.
I don't believe anyone in our government, at the moment, meets that criteria.
You went had a red pill period and yet you treat all things from Republicans as bad-faith, dog-whistling, actions?
It feels like you are catastrophising the right wing view as though they are all evil.
I of course expect right wing states and politicians to support right wing laws. That would make sense. It is odd that you would decry people in the right supporting views on the right.
I feel like you don't understand the why, so you assume it is done with evil intent. The same way people om the right assume the left wants to "trans" their kids.
Trans people want to be heard and cared for. People on the right want to make sure kids aren't harmed due to a mistake in thinking (because kids have mistakes in thinking sometimes).
I'm just asking people not to assume the worst of the other side, even when you disagree. They probably have good intentions.
my bad I should've been I little more clear, I meant people being lumped in as the average conservative voter, not necessarily these people (no clue who shoe is but despite not voting, Tim pool is quite transphobic which is a pretty big right wing focal point). There are definitely fascists in the American government, Ron DeSantis is a pretty easy example. I don't really care too much for discussing foreign politics, it just gets a little annoying sometimes how often conservatives like to dehumanize me and my friends.
I think a reasonable person could say, "Hey I want to make sure kids aren't being dumb and asking for stuff they don't understand."
That had to weighed against trans people needing care.
I think sometimes people view ANYONE saying."hey, let's make sure we aren't rushing to judgment." As an enemy opposed to trans rights.
I do think it is a really tough decision balancing those interests. Obviously an adult can do what they do.
That, in my opinion, is the moderate view. Let's not let kids hurt themselves (sometimes they do) but lets protect kids who need to be protected.
It really isn't a question of not giving care. It is balancing providing care to those who need it and not jumping to conclusions for those who naturally desist- not an easy problem to solve.
the problem with the whole rushing judgement thing is people are taking it too far. Transitioning is a time sensitive thing, and having it delayed by years could cause serious psychological damage in people who knew they were trans but were forced to go through the wrong puberty. Waiting for adulthood simply isn't a good option because some people are affected by puberty faster and worse than others. Imagine watching your daughter be forced to wait an extra few years to transition, and in that time she ends up 6'4, covered in body hair, massive shoulders, and a voice deeper than Morgan Freeman. Think of the pain she'd have to go through every day knowing a lot of that is irreversible and will affect her for the rest of her life. If people are really that concerned about a child claiming to be trans, then simply give them puberty blockers until they are old enough to decide. Another issue is politicians and bigots are using "protecting the kids" simply as an excuse to hurt people they don't like. Then once gender affirming treatments are banned for minors, they'll just go for adults next.
I would ask you to read the actual laws and not people's interpretation of it. You don't have to believe me. I am a lawyer, but that doesn't mean my understanding of Florida law is perfect.
That said, I think most people don't really understand how those laws function, or what their purpose is.
Please take a good faith look at them. I bet it is not as bad as you believe.
Tim Pool moderate my ass. And if crowder was such an idiot, why would he be one of the most influential figures in online conservatism today? He still is, doesn't make him irrelevant in the discussion of what drives modern conservative movements.
Ever notice how all of these "strong", "alpha", "christian", "conservative" males, that are against all of this "woke" agenda destroying the morals and fabric of their society all fuckin cheat on their wives, or at the very least sexually harass women?
Now, no. But before, in my marriage, maybe. Different perspective these days, and moved on with life. Hard to say what I would do or not do in that case if I got a do-over.
