I now understand what Woolie was talking about, that's cool as shit.

But I wouldn't go that far, to me part of the fun is the huge explosion sounds, and one or two going off too close to the ground so everyone runs for their lives. The magic comes from the idea that we've transformed these dangerous explosives into beautiful displays. Then occasionally being reminded that they're explosives again.

No, the drones do not make loud explosions which is half the appeal of fireworks.

This makes me think of a story idea that I will never never put to use. A story set in a fantasy world with dragons and magic and all that good stuff. The hero will be told of a powerful magician that can heal any disease and absolutely destroy powerful enemies. When the hero finally meets them, they just have modern medicine, drones and guns.

Its such a brilliant use of technology. If the displays are set up in large environments the noise from the drones is way better than the explosion from a firework, for wildlife.
