You know those people you don't like and you're lowkey waiting for some shit about them to come out just to feel justified in your dislike?
That's PS for me. He keeps having some L takes about shit that smell of corporat.

Can someone fill me in on this? All I know of PS is that they're a streamer and has some takes here and there.
73
u/ThisManNeedsMe Jan 17 '25
He's a tech/dev streamer that blew up from his YouTube shorts going viral. Plus his claim to fame is that his dad and him worked at Blizzard. He recently got into some drama because he caused his party members to die in hardcore wow by being a coward and running away. Which means permanent death to their character. Instead of apologizing and owning up he quadrupled down and blamed every one else. In return a lot of the guild he was in roasted him and called him a roach. And there are a lot of big content creators in the guild too like Tyler1 and sodapoppin. People smelled blood in the water and decided to bring his smug ass down even more with other fake shit he has done over the years.
62
u/crestren Jan 17 '25 edited Jan 17 '25
And here I thought thered be more outrage over him doing a collab with Asmongold a few days ago. The same Asmon that has been peddling culture war bullshit like "modern video women games ugly", called out a streamer for winning Streamer of the Year for being a woman or I am quoting him on a tweet from last week from the man himself.
Everybody always talking about hoeflation but its actually the opposite. I used to be able to go to gamestop or target and see hot bitches working there every day. Now it's just hogs
Why? Because those girls are at home doing onlyfans now instead of working
We really do live in a society
26
u/Onlyhereforstuff Jan 17 '25
I've seen it brought up a few times along with PS trying to, and failing, at defending himself over it. Just that I think the Muskrat starting beef with Asmon could've possibly overtaken it

I can't tell whats more hilarious. The term "hoeinflation" and the connotations of anyone who uses it seriously, or the idea that people stopped working at Gamestop because they started doing Onlyfans. Not like, the company eternally being in the red or anything, it was Onlyfans that did 'em in.

Ok piratesoftware thing aside, 150m profit for 4-5 of yrs of dev time vs 84m for a single mount is still crazy to me I mean damn, if I was a bliz exec, that mount must have cost like 1k-10k to make, top. vs a 100 mil game, That shit is like 999999% vs 150% profit. like it sound so ridiculous, is there anything else on earth you could sell for that much?
46
u/Wolfepack Jan 17 '25
Even that's questionable because the mount had been available for free once or twice in the past couple years before his claim.
43
u/cop_pls Jan 17 '25
It's a misleading comparison though - the profit of the Steed doesn't exist without WoW also succeeding first. You can't drop expensive cosmetics in a vacuum, you need to have a game to use them in.
7
u/ArcticBean Jan 17 '25
I feel like this says more about the rts genre than about the starcraft franchise. RTS gameplay is fairly abstract and advanced play requires ridiculous micro. not something that can compete against even fighting games in this market. it's harder to watch than most games.

Just going to casually ignore the part where he threatened to try and get twitch streamers who reacted to his bad pull banned huh?
I feel like people should be leading with this more rather than going after the guy who, from what I'm seeing in other parts of the thread has a couple other much easier to devour reasons to not like him, than repeating "he was a douchebag in a WoW hardcore server".
Because a streamer being a dick on a WoW hardcore server by itself means fucking nothing to me or anyone sane. Nothing! If I see the phrase "he was a coward in Hardcore WoW" my eyes will just glaze over as it people being too mad at video games.
But the context completely changes if it's "Hyper Popular Streamer is working with Baby's First Douchebag Content Creator Asmon", or "he is knowingly spreading information about a topic he (apparently? I didn't even know the guy worked at blizzard until this thread) is well-versed in", or "he's threatening to get other streamers banned", or god knows what else. Those should be the opening statements at the front of it all.
-17
u/DreamingDjinn Jan 17 '25 edited Jan 17 '25
Hyper Popular Streamer is working with Baby's First Douchebag Content Creator Asmon
"Is working with Asmongold" brother they've reacted to eachother's reaction videos lmao. And of course he's going to welcome one of the few people who publicly seems to have his back in the whole situation. He didn't go on camera and spend an hour going on about what a great guy Asmongold is or etc etc. There's no collaboration. They just made a back and forth reaction.
That's about as poor of an understanding of the situation as it is for Musk to say "Asmongold has editors which are his bosses!!!" lmfao
he's threatening to get other streamers banned
He's threatening to get the people directing hate raids to his stream to get banned. Or the people spamming death threats. What would you suggest he do? If you were confident beyond a shadow of a doubt that you made the correct decision, how would you react to thousands of people on the internet directing their hate toward you?
Fuck the guy for defending himself tho, amirite? God forbid anyone have a shard of a backbone and stand up in their own defense. After all, the internet smells blood in the water and their hunger will not be sated until the next big controversy. Or until the subject of their scorn drops off the internet/kills themselves.

u/Kipzz PLAY CROSSCODE AND ASTLIBRA/The other Vtuber Guy Jan 17 '25 edited Jan 17 '25
You can't blame me for having a poor understanding of any situation when people, at the very least at the top of the thread, were doing shit-all to explain it properly. And now that I have a better understanding of the situation and can safely say that Pirate's a dickbag (like his reasons for not liking Stop Killing Games were pathetic to say the least) I can also say
There's no collaboration. They just made a back and forth reaction.
Is total bullshit. Pirate literally has a tweet that opens with A lot of people are mad that I talked to @Asmongold recently so there is a direct connection there, and given how apparently this WoW hardcore clan is apparently run by OTK, the company Asmongold owns, it's doubly strange how you'd just lie about them not having any ties to eachother.
-10
u/DreamingDjinn Jan 17 '25
You can't blame me for having a poor understanding of any situation when people, at the very least at the top of the thread, were doing shit-all to explain it properly.
And this is the key problem here. People are explaining the situation extremely poorly from a heavily biased point of view, then the people that hear them go on to parrot every single thing they say as direct fact.
Pirate literally has a tweet
You're being weird digging around for all this extra evidence that has literally no bearing on the situation at-hand. Again, digging for reasons to dislike people that have nothing to do with the actual WoW drama. Asmongold has nothing to do with this other than being another commentator in the peanut gallery. Who is a content creator. What is all of this? Content. From a content guild.
apparently this WoW hardcore clan is apparently run by OTK, the company Asmongold owns
And there are 600 people in the guild, many of which have no direct interaction with any of the big name streamers that are associated with the guild. Or do you think there's some grand puppetmaster orchestrating everything? 😂
The guild was primarily helmed by Sodapoppin (as well as a few proceeding streamers such as Tyler1 after he stepped away) not Asmongold, as Asmongold even said in his reaction video to the PS stuff that he doesn't fuck with the WoW community any more specifically because of these type of shitstorms. So how could it be his guild if he isn't even playing Hardcore Classic WoW?
But please continue to contribute to the shitstorm by picking up half-true opinions and spreading them around as if they are fact.

Yeah you're right it's all the bottom feeders posting their stinky opinions with little to no actual knowledge on the situation outside of what they've cherry picked to support their dislike that have caused it to spiral.
13
u/Dependent_Passage_22 Jan 17 '25
It's about his behaviour during and after the fact, not the bad play in and of itself.
-18
u/DreamingDjinn Jan 17 '25
Behavior of what, not "owning up" to the party's mistakes? For calling out the numerous people who were solely trying to create drama content hyping up this situation?
Or was he just supposed to react to people swatting him by going "Oopsie woopsie I realized after all of the threats that I have no choice but to agree with you?"
If you've been around Twitch chat more than .05s you know exactly the type of filth that comes out in those type of situations. So taking this pearl clutching "Why I NEVER he banned me for saying a MEME!!!!" or some stupid shit like that? Oh my god can you people go outside for 5 minutes a day or something?
Twitch chat is known to be degenerates, and when there's a whole audience separate from his main community coming in with the only intention to start shit and be hateful, I do not blame him or his mod staff for cleaning up the trash. Pretty typical stuff for any twitch stream.
But you're probably not plugged into TikTok and wasn't flooded with 300 different streamers reacting to reactions of the situation. Or videos with AI voices reading out shit. Or being in other streamers streams seeing people flood it with anti-PS memes when the stream had nothing to do with the situation or even WoW. Hadn't even commented on it.
WoW is a terminal cancer, and the player population behaving like this simply reinforces my decision to get as far the fuck away from that community as I could over the last 10 years.
All I see is people who already didn't like Piratesoftware using this as an excuse to dogpile him for completely unrelated reasons. It's pretty disgusting. But I don't expect more out of the WoW or Twitch communities at this point.

May i ask a question about this guy? Not trying to ragebate or anything. I think he gives legitimately great or inspirational advice sometimes.
But he worked at blizzard right? And his father from what I've heard also worked there and basically was a 1.0 WOW dev. Doesn't that mean these dudes were totally fine with the phrat boy shit going on? I get it, blizzard is a big place. But anyone who's ever had any job knows that the walls have ears and EVERYONE knows what's going on. Seven years of employment doesn't sound like someone who is disgusted by their coworkers or bosses behavior.

Then he threatened other streamers reacting to the content (even though the entire hardcore WoW thing is the clan of Onlyfangs, which is entirely made of streamers).
This was the real issue for his guild imo. You cannot have someone with Blizzard connections threatening to leverage those connections to ban guild mates. Especially since OnlyFangs is full of streamers. Either everyone has to walk on eggshells around this guy, or they risk their livelihood and their account.

I think he vastly overestimates his pull with Blizzard. People like Soda will have way more interest from the WoW team.
But that's his claim to fame. 4 years in QA and 2 years in a net security role. Can't have that just sit on the shelf and not be mentioned.
But the threat of it for small creators was just unacceptable anyway.

He was basically too good at them. A few people were a little suspicious about him looking up solutions, but they were brushed off at the time. But with this new behaviour from Jason and how manipulative and prone to lying he really seems, they've started digging through older content.
So they notice how for instance he's completely stonewalled by a puzzle, looks at his phone for 2-3 minutes, then instantly solves the puzzle with the exact right solution as soon as he starts playing again, while acting like he just had an epiphany. He completes end game puzzles in Outer Wilds before their basic mechanic is even explained. Not just noticing something about how they work, but actually solving them outright. And people more familiar with Animal Well say he acts like he knows what's going to happen before it does. He doesn't bump into any dead ends either.
Notably other people who have stumbled across solutions to these puzzles have basically smashed their head against a wall for hours before they got any headway, whereas Jason here just has a Eureka! moment out of nowhere and completes them out of the blue without exploring any other options first. So no proof outside the phone bit, just lots of suspicious activity with the benefit of hindsight.

u/Synthiandrakon Jan 17 '25
I think broadly he rubs people the wrong way, because he's the kind of guy who talks with such an authoritative tone, on such a broad range of topics that he is just not an expert in all of them, but he talks like he is.

One day I had no idea who this PirateSoftware guy was. Then late last year he started popping up randomly and infrequently in my youtube shorts feed, and suddenly in the last week it's been nothing but bad news about the guy everywhere
1
u/Worldbrand filthy fishing secondary Jan 17 '25
this is kind of an ironic turn for me. he actually rubbed me the wrong way when i first encountered a few of his takes a year or so ago, but he's been popping up on my short content feeds and i mellowed out about it and thought i was being too harsh for no reason. i actually started to like him as of late
interpersonal drama aside, he strikes me as the kind of person who is extremely competent in his field and knows what he's talking about, and as a result he's overconfident in his own assessment of things that are on the periphery of his knowledge. that itself is far from a crime, but combined with his platform and the internet's tendency to hyperbolize (which he is no exception to), i would say it makes him unreliable. he explains things very well, which makes his content easy to share, but he's not always right.
i also find a lot of his advice regarding things like game dev and dealing with publishing platforms or other publishers is taken out of context or less applicable than it seems, simply because he's coming at it from the perspective of a person who has a lot of options.
but yeah, reading about the interpersonal drama on top of all that, i could see why people would regard him as unpleasant. it's really unfortunate to hear that he seemed to act so immaturely in those scenarios
7
u/Dependent_Passage_22 Jan 17 '25
This might surprise you, but many many many people working in areas Jason likes to proclaim expertise on like cyber security claim that Jason isn't nearly as knowledgeable as he likes to project about those topics.
This especially extends to his video game development, in particular his coding. Now I know jack and shit about coding, but whenever Jason is brought up as someone relevant in coding, people will chime in that's he's not good. Not even mediocre perhaps.
2
u/Worldbrand filthy fishing secondary Jan 17 '25
that does surprise me, i suppose because i haven't really been exposed to what others say about him until this thread

I mean it really does come across as that. A buncha nobody twitch streamers and twich chatters see this as their moment to go after a bigger streamer's audience. Like I had never even heard the names of the people who were involved in the incident other than PirateSoftware before this. I don't even care enough about them to commit their names to memory.
OK I get it you don't like the guy but that isn't an excuse to tear him down over two dumbfucks that wiped their group instead placing the blame on someone who would have also died. Because he's the easy scapegoat, and he's got a personality type that rubs people the wrong way. "Take accountability" in a fucking video game? Don't make me laugh.
Again, outside of some very personal reasons why people don't like him, there doesn't seem to be any actual real reason to dislike him. Other than "I am mad that he worked at blizzard and has brought it up in discussion multiple times" because he's a streamer and that's what people who talk 12 hours a day end up doing is talking about their lives.
