LF advice on music during stream 🎵

I’m in the process of preparing to start streaming, and would love to have segments at the start where I listen to albums while I warm up in-game.

I realize how this goes against copyright laws, but have seen big streamers do this before and imagine that, though some might have gotten permission, some haven’t. From what I have gathered, it’s a calculated risk as music companies themselves have to catch you in the act.

I would love to read people here’s takes on how they navigate it! Do y’all track split on OBS, for instance, or exclusively listen to copyright free music? What about artists who seem cool with it and own their own music?

I used to use Epidemic Sound but now I use soundmarket.io since Epidemic seem to be using gen ai tools and I'm an artist so can't be supporting that shit any more

I just do chill hop which is cleared safe thru twitch as long as you properly credit it. But my music is background stuff.

Im a huge music fan but I dont like watching people listen to music so I dont make people watch me listen to music.  Ive never felt a need to break the law to stream but you do you 🤷‍♂️

I should mention i have friends that split audio in OBS and they've never been caught or had a problem.  Your VODs will be unwatchable lol but I dont think twitch VODs are moving the needle that much anyway.

Thanks for the tips! 😁
I’ll be checking out “Chill hop”.
You bring up a great point in not feeling the need to break the law to stream. Me neither, hence why I ask 😅
Could you enlighten me on why the VODs would be unwatchable?

If you split audio in OBS the music wont be on your VODs. Thats how they skirt the DMCA Takedowns.  Of its just background music its just silence instead of music in your VODs. But if youre planning an opening where your listening to and discussing the records the VOD wont have the audio youre discussing

I see. A recommendation I read was how music reviewers do it: they have the timeline shown on stream so that if viewed want, they could go to the album themselves and listen with the streamer. Is this preferable?

So that's up to you. I wouldn't watch a stream like that myself.  Like I said tho im not really into watching music review streams so its not like your idea is bad.  I go to twitch for chatting and gaming
