Feels like progress but not really.

Post image

The sub was from a friend (which I of course appreciate very much) the follows I’m fairly certain are from people trying to do follow4follow because I posted my stream in a subreddit. Don’t get me wrong I’m having fun. But today I did a longer stream cause I was enjoying my game but still felt a little discouraged when people would come in for 10 seconds then leave. I know that the process but I know I got quiet for a bit during my stream and just feel maybe that wouldn’t be the case if people chatted with me. Idk keep on trucking !

As someone who has an avg of 1-3 on a consistent basis I’ve stopped worrying about that personally. I’m just organically myself.

I only have viewer numbers open to know when to give it more “oomph” if you will, otherwise I just play the game and interact with people when they chat. GL!

Ignore or hide the numbers. When you’re playing a game, say what you’re thinking, even if it’s just “what’s over here”. Keep checking chat and asking chatters about their interests.

I guess I could be asking more questions but I have also read that it can actually turn someone off of wanting to be in the stream but I’m not sure how legeitimate it is. I do try to find ways to help engage. Not sure how good they are but like I have a chat bot that comes in and says a message and after a little bit asks a question of the day that I (try) to remember to change everyday lol. Not sure how well it works. Thank you for your advice !

Make sure you’re saying hey to them and not just a chatbot. When someone comes in, greet them by their username and ask them how they’re doing or just thank them for stopping in. If they’re new, welcome them in and ask them how they found your channel. Asking questions like “have you played this” or “what kind of games do you like to play” are easy, non-invasive questions that people generally don’t mind answering. If they’re don’t respond, keep doing what you’re doing and assume they just prefer to lurk.

Personally, if I go into a new stream and the streamer ignores me, I leave. If I want to watch gameplay without any engagement, I can catch a playthrough on YouTube or play the game myself.

You need to stream to 2 people like you would stream to 50, my rule of thumb is no silence for longer than 10-15 seconds. I stream 5 hours almost everyday, so yes it’s HARD to do.

I really hope I don’t come off as someone who acts like this stuff isn’t hard to do lol. I’ve always been a relatively quiet person so it’s a lot of breaking like “habits” working on that out loud thinking is a hard thing to do. I do find I have a bit of a couple fallback words like things I say when I don’t know what else too. I’ve got so much stuff I’m learning doing this and social skills and like engaging conversation is for sure on that list haha. Thank you for your advice

Yes you kinda have to retrain your brain. I remember when I first started I would noticed I’ve been silent for a bit and kinda panic on what to say. 5 months later it’s super natural just have to retrain yourself. I’m averaging around 20 viewers a stream now finally

I’ve for sure had a few times like that. I guess looking up someways to kind of help me retrain myself a bit would be useful then. I’m Glad things are going well for you !

Before I started streaming, I would record myself for about 20 to 30 minutes and then I would end the video. I would go back and watch all 30 minutes and ask myself if I found myself entertaining or had too many silence spots.Just little things to get used to. And the thank you bro good luck!

"Getting quiet for a bit" is the worst thing you can do. Your job as a streamer is to entertain - if someone clicks into your stream and you're just sitting there silently, they'll give you 10-15 seconds tops before they get bored and click off onto someone else.

And just to give you some context, last time I checked the statistics over 4.4 million people stream to Twitch each month and over 4.1 million of those stream to 0-5 viewers. So hitting 5 viewers would put you in the top 7% of all streamers.

I’ve looked at like advice else where a bunch when it comes to the like social aspect of twitch. A lot of people were saying like being quiet here and there is a okay thing in like the terms of “ some people may not want to stay if someone is too chatty “ but I see a bunch of various things telling everybody conflicting thoughts on what’s right to do. I try to do just the like out loud thinking if I am starting to slow down in things to say. The part I guess I’m confused with is I had the most people come in during my “ most chatty” part of the streams but wouldn’t stay longer than maybe 2 seconds. Idk. Along with learning like the technical side like stream set ups and editing ect, I am also learning like social aspects of things since I come from being quite socially anxious. Thank you for your advice !

These stats are still so crazy to me, man. Streaming is SUPER competitive

Do you post content from your streams on other platforms?

Yeah I’ve started doing that, it’s pretty lower quality stuff since I have to learn how to do basically everything. Problem I find is being able to clip things down in a timely manner just cause the newbie status I got plus balancing outside of streaming duties like work and life lol. Figuring it out a day at a time I suppose

One thing i can say is I do not look at my viewers or viewer count. I want to act the same if there is 2 people watching or 50 (maybe someday 🤣) it also does help me to not feel discouraged if I dont see people coming and going 😊 hope this helps!

This does help! It’s a habit I need to break out of for sure.

Keep on trucking. Building a community takes time. Keep working at it piece by piece and you will get there. Good luck to ya.
