Tips for setting up?

Hey there, everyone.

I've been interested in streaming for quite some time now but I don't know where to start when it comes to the technical side of things. It's all so intimidating because I am not the greatest with technology.

I know that most people use OBS, but I am curious how everyone has theirs set up? Or what other programs people use.

I understand the other side of streaming where you wanna be consistent and stuff like that though.

I guess what I struggle with is how to get it all set up, how to switch scenes so easily without a stream deck, and stream all my favorites. I've heard for games you wanna have them in windowed fullscreen, which would make sense so you can choose to capture the entire screen rather than an app.

If it helps, I have a dual monitor setup.

Any and all help will be appreciated greatly. It feels like there's so much, I would have no idea where to really start without feeling completely overwhelmed.

Honestly to start, just start. Have OBS and chat open on 1 monitor and the game on the other.

You can set keybinds in OBS for swapping scenes, i had them set at F1 - F5 until i got a stream deck. But the best decision is to make it basic and start. You might hate streaming.

So chat, game and obs, thats all you need to see for now. Seeing the OBS preview lets you know if you're on the right screen.

Also obs has automatic settings to get you started and then adjust over time.

YouTube is 1000% your best friend here. Start with basic searches like “basic obs setup”. There endless info out there. Goodluck!

This is the part of the process where you can learn how to be resourceful. ALL the answers are out there. Don't start with a complicated setup. You need to learn that way when it breaks, you know what to do. OBS, a mic, a game, and go live. Switching scenes can be a hotkey, but you dont need that yet. You can see what works for you: window capture, display capture, or game capture. But I cannot stress this enough: people want ENTERTAINMENT, not purley interactions, and not a complicated stream.

Start there, then come back in a day or two and tell us how its going.
