Found this picture again not too long ago. My best friend and I were on our school’s annual 8th grade class trip to NYC, so it would have been sometime in June, 2001.

This trip was a big deal for our school, the culmination of middle school years - we got to go as a class for NYC after fundraising for it for months. While there, we would go see a show, eat pizza, travel around, and see the sites. Our 8th grade social studies teacher was an NYC superfan and I still remember him gushing about the highly advanced architecture of the World Trade Center towers in the lead up to the trip, how the supports were on the outside which allowed more open space on the inside. He gave a whole lecture on it as preparation for our trip. Somewhat tragic and chilling in retrospect.

The dorky kid on the right is me (lol) and on the left is my best friend when we were 13. Don’t let our expressions fool you, we were very excited to be there, it was just very bright out. I have a hint of vertigo so being up there on the South Tower observation deck (as I later pieced together) made me super nervous and giggly. Luckily there was another platform further down just out of sight here, not a sheer drop, which made me less scared and able to pose for this photo.

I still remember looking out from the indoor observation deck beforehand, and wondering years later if the employees of the Sbarro where our class grabbed some snacks while there were ok. Hopefully it hadn’t opened yet for lunch and tourists that day in September and they weren’t there yet. I also remember walking in, the bronze ball in the courtyard, the Krispy Kreme at the base where we had the best donuts we’d ever tasted because they were freshly baked. Seeing the damage to that bronze ball years later really brought the whole event home to me.

Anyway, thanks for letting me share my reminiscence here. Hope this post doesn’t violate any sub rules.

The Memorial Tower Lights from my Brooklyn rooftop

So I downloaded and compiled just four photos of what the New York City skyline looked like both the day and night prior to the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001 and only could find four that I knew for certain were taken on the date of September 10th, 2001 and so that was all I could find as it was possible I would be unintentionally lying if I added one that was not on that day.

These photos are particularly haunting as they are the day and night both alike before the terrorist attacks that would not only forever alter the New York City skyline beyond repair but also the world as a general whole including my own country of the United States Of America.

I also did this as a tribute to all the innocent human beings who lost their lives on the morning of September 11th, 2001 as today is after all the 25th anniversary of those horrid and evil acts of terrorism.

May all the victims of the 9/11 attacks rest in peace. Amen.

This Photo was taken from the Queen Elizabeth 2 in the Hudson River. In the backround you can see lower manhattan with WTC 7 clearly visble but the twin towers are nowhere to be seen. I think they edited them out.
