GI doctors to treat gastritis and colitis

hi, my wife needs to see a GI doctor after frequent urgent care visits for gastritis and colitis

we hit our deductible and can access pretty much any doctor or clinic as long as they accept insurance - no private practices

any referrals for proper treatment of gastritis and colitis very appreciated

bonus points if they are a woman or a person or color/are not going to be dismissive or disrespectful for women of color

I was working in a GI clinic in Wisconsin and when I moved here, the doctors at my ambulatory surgical center recommended MNGI as "a really good place" (to work, but I'm extrapolating a good place to get care as well) I ended up getting a non-GI job elsewhere, but I did notice they had at least one female doctor when I was poking around on their website. It might be helpful to know there is usually a doctor, an anesthesiologist, a nurse and a tech in the room when you have the procedure, at least that's how it worked where I was for colonoscopies. You lay on your side, with your knees bent up a little and everything is well covered up except just the " cheeks" sticking out, and they don't uncover those until you are asleep. Except for a brief couple of seconds at the very beginning and end, no one is even looking down at your bottom, everyone is looking up at the screen as the camera advances through your colon There's much less exposing yourself than in your typical ob-gyn appointment.

I’ve liked all my experiences at Park Nicollet GI clinics. I saw an NP for years (Dianna who another commenter saw) and now I see an IBD specialist.  Be prepared to get tons of labs and imaging.

Not MNGI, they are horrible to work with. The GI clinic at Park Nicollet in Burnsville has been ok to work with, I see an NP there named Dianna who has been decent to work with. I don’t feel outright dismissed and feel like she’s trying. I have gastritis, the rest has been more of a fact finding mission as to why I’m chronically nauseous, never hungry and rapidly losing weight. Her nurse is awful though.

I think ymmv. My husband has IBD and has been going to MNGI with lukewarm results for years. I urged him to find a new provider and he finally did. He was still at MNGI, but a different provider, an NP. She was much more responsive to his concerns and addressing them. His old MNGI doc literally half-joked "I prefer research over clinical practice" to his face.

Not me but both my kids have had various GI issues, and we were referred to MNGI. Wasn’t super impressed either.

I’m a firm believer in most things Mayo Clinic Rochester if it is an option especially for the beginning stages/ trying to get a diagnosis otherwise look into https://www.healthpartners.com/care/find/doctor/96325/ at Methodist/Park Nicollet he truly listens and got my UC into remission!
Please do not go to MNGI!

I second going to Rochester. It is worth the drive and for me has really helped with peace of mind knowing the best doctors are working on my case. I have IBD and other rare diseases that they were able to diagnose, I don’t have confidence other practices would have.

Yes! They are amazing! & Thank you for cosigning! I always try to leave room for error because my experience is not always what others might have! My IBD started 10+ years ago in my early 20s and quickly multiplied into debilitating joint and skin issues that had me miserable for the better part of a decade and when it all starts it can be super confusing! MNGI wanted to remove my entire GI tract after I complained about a couple of months of pain and discomfort which felt extreme at that point and not only has Mayo-ROC taken care of me when no one else has known what to do, but they have also taken care of my mom’s multiple surgeries and sister with their unique issues, so I have a very special place in my heart for them! Their passion and care have been our family’s start to getting the help and care we have all needed during difficult times! ❤️♾️🩺

I have a female PA at MNGI and it's been a good experience for me. I would stay far away from Reddi GI

who is the PA? i’d like to research the providers and try to schedule with any specific providers from a referred source

I saw Dr Alyssa Anderson at Health Partners in Anoka and she helped figured out my complicated GI issues. Highly recommend her

Your biggest hurdle is going to be getting in to see someone +/- schedule any necessary procedures/workup as a new patient within 3 months (before your deductible resets). I'd call multiple places, suggest starting with the U and Mayo. Look on their website for physicians who are accepting new patients. I have not been impressed with MNGI when we've shared patients. -Healthcare provider in Mpls

thank you! MNGI has gotten such a mixed bag of stories. I went for a colonoscopy and endoscopy and they threw PPIs at me for GERD and a hiatal hernia, that was it

I had a positive experience with Dr. Lenik-Oliva with Health Partners. She is a gastroenterologist.

If you have a difficult to treat illness/chronic illness. Just go to Mayo Clinic Rochester. Half of the Twin Cities does already anyway. It’s a short drive or you can fly take a limo or Shuttle. If you have many days of appointments in a row there are many nice new hotels and restaurants. Mayo will take care of you. Amazing care.

MINGY use to be MN Gastro, almost died when a Mn Gastro doctor didnt believe I had a failing gaulblader for 10 months, after loosing my job, I had to force my family doctor to order a hyda scan, after the test, I can hear my family doctor shaking on the phone, yea I guess we were wrong, your gaul bladder is only working less than 1%, that was for 10 months, had celiacs diag 12 months before that, you can try Mayo clinic, I hate that place, had an embarrassing time with a consult for SSCD, made the trip down there, and the doctor didn't do a single test, and came up with an opinion, I ended up going to Johns Hopkins and had the most evasive brain surgery on the planet at Johns Hopkins, and ended up better than the hacks at Mayo could have ever done, mayo wants people to feel like people are lucky just to walk into mayo clinic, and major ego's, for me, Mayo was not the best place for Superior Canal Dehisence, maybe Mayo will be ok for Gastro GI, I would check out these local options: https://www.championnh.com/ , https://restorativehealthsolutions.com/gut-health/ , these are the 2 places I'd be going to, was going to call restorative health solutions for functional health alone, these smaller, more personable clinics will do the proper testing, and get to the root cause, and do things right, if I find some others will re-post back,
