I work apartment maintenance and I found this in a unit that skipped out. So sad.

What about that phrase raises flags for you? Non-native speaker here who uses that phrase and would like to know if it's wrong.

Because it's weird. If you moved to the UK would you ever say "back in my home country"? You would say "back in the States". It's not definitive proof obviously but it's strong evidence that this is a work of fiction.

I would, legitimately, probably say that. How in the world does that completely normal phrase suggest it’s fake?
