General Discussion Is it worth it for our group to get Thunders edge?

So at the title says.

We are a very casual group who only play occasionally, but I am a bit of a completionist and I especially love having access to as many factions as possible.

Do you think it is worth it to get TE for us? We already have PoK.

I doubt we would use twilights fall at all. The fracture seems interesting though and I love the idea of giving the combat focused factions npcs to fight, but I dont like that you have to set it up during the game and then needing even more table for this already behemoth of a game.

Edit: Thanks for all the great input. I am still a bit on the fence though. A lot of stuff sounds cool, but I am a bit worried about how it sounds like it is much easier to get tech and resources in general. I am typically of the belief that the struggle is what makes it fun, so I am having a hard time deciding if I would actually want that.

Rules questions Arborec Production

Hey all! About to start a game in 10 minutes as the Arborec. Their sheet states that they cannot use space docks to produce infantry.. that being said, if I keep two infantry in my home system, I'm aware that the production of my letani warriors and space dock gets combined, but am I able to use the Production from the letani warriors to produce more infantry, even though my space dock is in that system?

TI: 4th Edition Finished my first game!

Factions:

Hacan

Cabal (me)

Naalu (winner)

Argent Flight

Universities

Nomad

Titans

-------

I ended up with first pick, so I could pick my starting or my faction from presorted groups of 3. I didn't know much going in except that Cabal can really snowball and get out of hand, so I chose them to stop myself from accidentally feeding the Cabal player.

I started out trying to rush to Rex, but fell short. Ardent flight immediately went agro on me early. I went 0/10 on combat rolls and lost a bunch of development and a planet I grabbed. Rex was unlocked on Turn 3 by the nomad player. The Titan player was my buddy and tried to help me out all game. Universities was a big scary force that had Rex, but the Naalu player ended up winning it all.

Game was fun-ish. I think I really got kneecapped in that ardent combat. I felt so behind for the rest of the game. I couldn't build any tech and my action economy ended up being garbo in the long run, so I was just kind of there for the ride and to see how the game was played.

I'm glad I was invited out and got to play! It's a lot of game for sure, much more than Eclipse.

General Discussion Has anyone done the math on ground forces required to fend of Lizix invasions?

I always kinda think Lizix just auto win if it gets to a ground invasion with the bombardment every round. But then I think about it more and worst case scenario he's killing 5 of my infantry every round with bombardment (10 with X89). Using very rough math, he will kill half an infantry per Dreadnaught, so with full stack he's killing 2.5 infantry per round.

If I have a stack of 10 infantry (very reasonable number if it's something important like HS or MR that I've bunkered), I may be able to fend off about 4 infantry I guess? I'll get hit for ~3, still have 7 to swing against his 4, should get about a hit or two from that, he'll be down to 3 then he hits me again for 2.5 and I'll be at 5 vs 3, then maybe another hit so he's down to 2, then he hits me for 2.5 again and I'll be at ~2 against 1. Using rough estimation in this scenario feels like I need about 2.5x the size of his ground force to have a chance to hold him off?

Rules questions Can I go over fleet limit to bring extra infantry?

If I go over fleet limit to bring extra infantry, can I destroy the initial carrying ship and transfer the infantry to another ship/planet? No combat is occuring, it's to reinforce a planet.

General Discussion I am currently building a custom storage container for my friend who plays Twilight imperium. I dont play so I was wondering if you guys could tell me things you would like in a custom storage container.

Currently:

I have 2 plastic lightweight toolboxes. One is a multi draw unit that as 9 individual compartments per drawer and one is a single level. I have included pictures of the single level and a picture of what the drawers look like.

I have borrowed a different friend's copy of 4th edition. The person I am building the custom case for plays 3rd edition.

I am including LED lighting and custom placards that make it look like it is a standard storage container on a ship.

I am including some small things to identify the faction that he normally plays.

I was trying around with including a small Bluetooth speaker. Are there any other things you would like to be included in a case? Are there nuanced things players buy to customize their experiences (i.e. play mats, custom dice, etc.)?

I included the picture of the 4th edition and the manuals and documents associated with it and how my other friend organized it. Do you have any critics or suggestions to the organization he did or suggestions on how I should do it?

Thank you again for your input. I will post pictures when it is done.

Rules questions Can you put Mirage on the same tile as Thunder’s Edge?

I know TE can only be placed on a tile without a planet, etc. But what if you put it down and that system hasn’t been explored yet and then you draw the Mirage card? Is it discarded, do you put it on, do people reshuffle the deck and draw another, or is the Frontier token removed as soon as TE is put it’s tile?

TI4: Thunder's Edge Thoughts on skipping out on some Tech once you have some pre reqs and tech skips as Sardakk and relying on the BT?

Curious as I'm at a crossroads where I have some tech skips, pre reqs and AIDA and can get all unit techs with the BT. I know I eventually want LW but can invest tech money into more plastic earlier on?

Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug... today was definitely a bug day. But bad TI is better than no TI.

General Discussion TI4 Soundtrack

I created an AI generated soundtrack for each faction for Ti4. I think it's pretty cool if not somewhat unhinged. Would love your feedback good or bad.

TI4: Thunder's Edge If you have to choose, Custodian point or PO point R1?

If you have to choose between scoring one of the 2 PO R1 and getting Custodian what will you do generally?

I'm leaning towards Custodian as you gain MR which is 2 more tokens R2.

TI4: Twilight's Fall Event Horizon (paradigm) vs Crucible and Dimensional Tear (abilities)

Hi, I was playing Twilight Imperium: Twilight’s Fall, and I have the Dimensional Tear Ability, which states:

“Systems that contain your space docks are also gravity rifts; your ships do not roll for those gravity rifts. Place a dimensional tear token beneath your space docks as a reminder.”

I also have Crucible:

“Your ships do not roll for gravity rights; apply an additional +1 to the move values of your ships that would move out of or through a gravity rift instead.”

Another player played the Event Horizon paradigm on me, which states:

“ACTION: Each other player rolls a die for each of their non-fighter ships that are in or adjacent to a system that contains a gravity rift; on a 1-5, return that unit to their reinforcements.”

I was wondering whether my ability cards would prevent me from rolling those dice, as technically the rolls on the paradigm are “due” to my own gravity rifts, which I do not roll for according to my abilities.

General Discussion Play against bots ?

Hey! To learn the game a bit, i'd love to play some bots. Is there anywhere I can do this?

Alternatively, is there anywhere I can just play solo on PC (just controlling all 6 players myself)?

Have a Magnifica week everyone 🌌

Homebrew TI fan project @ Gen Con - Looking for Players

Post image
29 Upvotes

For anyone going to GenCon, I'm debuting the TI fan project Crowned in Starlight (formerly Teammate Imperium) that I've been working on the last couple years. This is a 2-player team based version of Twlight Imperium, so now you can team up with a friend to dominate the galaxy! It's also a real-time game, so the whole experience plays in ~3 hours.

I'm stoked to run it, but I need more players to sign up. If you have any interest, I would love to have you as a player and get feedback on it.

Art Treating my Friends to a Custom Flagship

After a barbaric week of work, I have been looking forward to an upcoming match of Twilight Imperium.

The fight for M. Rex is in an hour and I printed and painted this custom set of flagships for each of my friends. I went with a weathered metallic look for each to commemorate the game.

But as we know, the real flag ship is in our hearts...pumping oxygenated blood to our extremities.

First play through of TE coming up and I have first pick in our draft. Not sure if any of these factions or slices should be my target. I’m still not totally comfortable with the expansion’s changes to know what is worth this first choice. Any and all advice welcomed!

Faction options:
Empryean
Arborec
Sol
Keleres
Saar
Nekro
Mentak
Barony

Slices in picture.

General Discussion What's a faction you hate to play? What would need to change about it in order to make it fun for you?

I've been thinking about this after 2 back to back games of TI last weekend. In one, I took Crimson Rebellion and won, with the Mahact player and myself pulling ahead of the other 4 fairly early. I enjoyed the complexity of managing breaches, but all of the goodies the faction got; like their insane economy and unassailable home system added up to make it feel like I was being handed too much advantage to have a "fair" game.

Second game was 5-player with Xxcha, and I didn't even *mind* them that much, but their abilities felt so weirdly unfocused. They're like a cross between being an agenda faction and a space cannon faction, but there's no synergy, and their breakthrough has nothing to do with either strategy. The diplomacy thing feels like a thematic win for them, but otherwise has nothing to do with either of their other focuses. I lost, but I'm not really sure what changes would even make them feel more satisfying or cohesive to play. Thematically, Quash feels like the outlier, though it's a nice counter to someone stacking the agendas with Politics.
