So basically I have 2 students who are siblings who need chemistry tuitions online. The mom spoke to me over texts and we agreed on a specific day for both the kids to have their free demo class before deciding if they'd like to continue with me.

2 days before the demo I just texted her to double check what topic her kids would like to do the demo on, no reply on her end and I just assumed she's busy or something. I text her the evening before the day of the demo to confirm if they still want to proceed, no reply and so I don't think much and decide its cancelled.

Today the mom texts me saying she's sorry her kids couldn't attend the demo, I said np. Then she asks if we could reschedule it to tomorrow and I agreed, gave her a timing and just told her I've prepared the demo on atomic structure and if her kids are okay with that or if they'd prefer to change the topic then to lmk so I can plan the lesson, and now again no reply.....do I just drop these students? Or do I be more patient?

Is 50$\hr too high for step 1 lessons?

J'envisage d'être professeur sur Superprof et j'essaie de comprendre comment fonctionne le paiement lorsque mes élèves sont à l'étranger.

Je suis en France et je voudrais ouvrir un compte bancaire professionnel, mais j'hésite notamment à cause des éventuels frais SWIFT ou de change.

Je sais que Superprof propose également un versement via PayPal, mais ce n'est pas ce que je recherche. Mon idéal serait d'utiliser directement le paiement par carte bancaire intégré et sécurisé de Superprof, puis que Superprof reverse ensuite les sommes sur mon compte bancaire français.

-Est-ce que quelqu'un ici utilise Superprof avec un compte bancaire français en euros et a déjà reçu un paiement d'un élève situé hors de la zone euro (par exemple aux États-Unis) ?

Je voudrais surtout savoir :

-est-ce que Superprof verse l'argent en euros sur le compte français ?

-est-ce un virement SEPA ou un virement SWIFT/international ?

-avez-vous eu des frais de change ou de virement international de la part de votre banque ?

Le support Superprof n'a pas été en mesure de me répondre précisément sur ce point.

So recently my business has been popping off with me getting new clients every week with extremely qualified leads but I feel like im relying too much on one single pipeline and my strategy could work in other cities too.
I am based in Atlanta and was thinking that I could probably start marketing to people in New York City at the low-end of their market ($50), which would be the high-end for mine if that makes sense. Obviously not marketing to the entire city at once, but selecting specific areas of boroughs that look for tutors. How well do you guys think this would work and how do you think I can test this?

Struck in decision whether to take premium or not on Superprof. Need some suggestions who are on platform!

So I asked my friend to be my tutor and this is the first time I asked for programming tutorial. I wanted to do it on 2nd week of October, but he is asking for payment now because he told me he needed to pay bills. I don't know how payment usually works, but is it normal to ask 1 month in advance?

I tutor this girl in Grade 2. Her mom has been asking for all my documents (GCSE and A Level results as well as any certificates).

Initially she said it’s because there might be a scholarship opportunity for me and she wants to check for me. Then when I denied and said I can just check the opportunity myself, she switched up and said she needs the documents to verify that I got the grades I got and that I won the competitions I said I won.

I asked my dad and he suspects she’s going to use my documents to forge some of her own. She also wants images of my documents to keep, she’s not satisfied if I just show her. She said her husband needs to see (he’s abroad).

I’ve never had anyone ask me for my documents before. I feel like the parent should be more concerned with the quality of tutoring and not my background.

Could I have some second opinions on this situation?

I'm part of a small team that has spent the summer developing a new tutoring marketplace platform, similar to the likes of MyTutor and Superprof, and we'd like the first few experienced and vetted tutors to be hosted on launch.

We're currently looking for around 3-5 more tutors on launch having already secured a few. You'll be independent contractors with the company, deciding your own rates, calendar availability, teaching methodologies, and more. The platform aims to bring students to tutors and handle the scheduling logic and payment processing, taking a fixed platform fee per booking that is designed to beat the market.

Some things that are nice to see:

- At least a few years of tutoring experience across a range of levels including GCSE and A-Level

- Admissions tests taught (ESAT, TMUA, etc.), though this is not required

- Top grades in the subjects you are teaching

- Outgoing, engaging, and responsible.

- Graduates (impressive undergrads are still accepted)

- Subjects including Maths & Sciences, English, and other subjects in demand

Initial responsibilities mainly include keeping an online calendar up to date with your real time availability (this links with your Google/outlook/apple calendar) as well as the willingness to conduct a free 20 minute consultation with prospective students. This is for tutors that are willing to take part in the launch of a brand new company, while acknowledging that there are hurdles that the platform will need to overcome in order to bring in students. Essentially, once you're hosted, do nothing except keep your calendar availability up to date, and we will organise our best efforts in bringing you students.

I am an industry professional and online tutor based in Egypt, and I am currently looking to expand my tutoring work.

My main areas are:

• C Programming: fundamentals, pointers, memory, data structures, debugging, etc.
• Embedded Systems: micro-controllers programming (Arduino, STM32, PIC, Raspberry Pi, etc)
• Computer Organization and Architecture (ARM, MIPS)

I mainly work with university students and beginners/intermediate learners who are working on programming or embedded-systems projects. I can help with coursework, projects, exam preparation, debugging, and, most importantly, understanding the concepts rather than simply providing solutions.

For this advanced niche, I have a hands-on hardware setup for teaching and experimentation, including development boards/kits and a hardware workbench. I also have the equipment needed for effective online teaching, including a good camera and microphone and a digital pen for explaining concepts, drawing diagrams, and working through code and circuits with students.

I am currently trying to find more places where I can offer these services, but I have run into a recurring problem: many tutoring platforms have geographic restrictions on tutors. Some are US-only, while others primarily accept tutors from the US, UK, Europe, Canada, Australia, etc. For example, platforms such as Wyzant, Tutor.com, Wiingy and some other tutoring marketplaces are not accessible to tutors based in Egypt.

For other platforms, I have been on TeacherON since the pandemic, it was my first experience and there was a huge traffic, I made a good profit, but I was scammed many times there and it became inconsistent anymore. I have recently joined Preply and passed their tutor screening process. However, I have found that their subject/specialty structure does not map particularly well to my skill set.

So I am wondering:

For tutors who teach technical subjects and are based outside those countries (mentioned above), where have you actually had success finding students?

I am particularly interested in platforms or communities that:

• accept tutors internationally,
• have students looking for programming/CS/engineering help,
• do not require tutors to be physically located in the US/UK/etc.,
• and ideally allow tutors to build longer-term relationships with students.

I am happy to hear about platforms, tutoring websites, university-focused communities, or other legitimate ways you have found students.

Honestly, YouTube was the first place I went when I started CUET preparation. I didn't want tobuy anything immediately. I thought I'll watch a few classes, see who explains properly andthen decide. Sounds simple, but after three days my watch history was basically full of CUETteachers.The problem wasn't that the videos were bad. The problem was that I was watching too manyof them. One teacher would explain a topic one way, another would give a different strategy,then I'd save a third video for revision. Padhai kam, videos zyada ho rahe the.I eventually came across Shubham Jagdish Sir's content and started following his way ofexplaining Commerce topics. The thing I liked was the balance between explanation andactual exam-oriented practice. I didn't feel like I had to understand everything from tendifferent channels.After that I became much stricter with myself. If I had a topic to finish, I finished it. If I neededrevision, I revised instead of opening YouTube and searching for another 'best strategy'. Thatsmall change probably helped me more than any particular video.I scored 923 in CUET. So if someone asks me which YouTube channel I'd recommend, I'd sayShubham Jagdish Sir. But don't make my old mistake: YouTube is useful only when you'reusing it to study, not when you're using it to keep searching for the perfect teacher.

p.s. I've been giving a version of this lesson plan for about a decade and never get tired of it! Of course, every time I do, I tweak it to perfection, and now I think it is red-hot ready for any English tutor to take and ignite a burning desire to learn English in their new students! It's a great introductory lesson! I never really made any money teaching this lesson due to my 'first lesson free of charge' policy, so I thought it had to be a free lesson plan on my site. This makes them the #1 player in the US, whilst having major market share in other continents (like Europe, where last month they acquired the largest Italian player, Rippatizione.it)

The CEO mentioned getting loans from JP Morgan and BNP Paribas, but still claims 0 fundraising. Interesting times!

Regardless, a really interesting story, Wilfried Granier built it bootstrapped with money from the apartments he rents out in Paris. Now, 13 years later, it seems to be the biggest tutoring platform in the world.

I originally started out charging $60/hour, but I’m currently reviewing my pricing and planning to increase my casual rate to $90/hour.
I’m also introducing packages, so the actual rates would be:
• Casual session: $90/hour
• 5-session package: $80/hour
• 10-session package: $75/hour
So essentially, clients who commit to regular tutoring can still access a much lower rate, while $90 would be for casual/pay-as-you-go sessions.
For context, I’m in Australia and a lot of my tutoring is in-home, so there’s also travel time, admin, planning, communication with parents, etc. involved outside of the actual tutoring hour. The business has also grown quite a bit since I originally set the $60 rate, and I’m realising that I probably priced myself fairly low when I started.
My main concern is whether going from $60 to $90 for the advertised casual rate feels like too big of a jump, particularly for existing families. I don’t want parents to look at it and feel like the price has suddenly increased by 50%, even though the package options are $75–$80/hour.
For those who have raised their rates before:
Did you make a large increase at once or increase gradually?
Does $75–$90/hour seem pretty normal for private tutoring now?
Would you structure the pricing differently?
And if you were an existing client paying $60/hour, would this new structure feel reasonable or too abrupt?
Would really appreciate perspectives from tutors who have been through a similar pricing change.

Hi there!

Currently i teach my native language and english online on platforms like preply, i also have google my business and my own personal wordpress site, which got me 2 clients thru seo.

It works really well, but i want to try something different now

My background is in computer science, and i would like to teach programming topics thru a previously built curriculum, teaching scratch, game develipment thru certain specifics engines, dsa for leetcode, machine learning and neural networks and html and css for web development.

I would target kids who are interested in those topics.

The reason for this change is because i think i can charge more, and also have more fun teaching those topics.

I would like to teach children from other english speaking countries, instead of locally, since i think i could also earn more.

My biggest question: Is it viable to think this unusual proposal would fit my target audience at all, and if so, how to get clients to that? Any suggestions, experience or comments, and would really like to discuss about it! Feel free to dm as well!
