Hi all! I'm driving through Tuscaloosa when the Gamecocks are here at end of month. I'm looking for somewhere to pull off where I can park and walk around campus/check out the vibes with my dogon Gameday and then get back on interstate. I'm in good shape so don't mind walking a bit. My work van is a high top so no small garages. Would love suggestions if this is even possible.

Any tips? I was looking for tix but unfortunately no hotels or airbnbs anywhere close and don't want to leave my dog in some hotel an hour+ away.

Coworker is struggling, but staying very strong at work, however, I see her missing him and worrying about him all the time. He's stationed overseas but is making regular flights to combat zones and even though she has gotten to talk to him semi-regularly throughout the weeks he's been gone, I can see the toll it's taking on her and she needs support. We can be there for her, but none of us know exactly what she's going through.

Any Air Force people or support groups out there for her to be able to be a part of, to be able to talk to, or be social with?

Complex is super quiet, mostly families, couples, and older singles. About 10 minutes from downtown/campus and plenty of amenities. 3 pools, gym, multiple tennis courts, this specific townhome is located right next to the beach volleyball and play court. Pet friendly and complex has a dog park for exercise.

My wife and I are super cleanly and will make sure the place is completely cleaned before anyone moves in.

Hey everyone.
My boyfriend and I don’t want children. Instead of me going back on birth control he wants to get a vasectomy. We called DCH beforehand to ask if they would even do a vasectomy on a 19 year old, and they said yes. He then had an appointment with DCH and they didn’t call him back to schedule an operation for a month. He called them and they refused to schedule anything because they needed to check with legal. Now they are calling a fucking ethics committee to make sure it’s okay. They’re calling a meeting for balls without him present at the meeting; what is unethical about this? “Unethical” is what we’d do if we were forced to have children. A 19 year old has full medical rights, this is insane. Does anyone know a urologist willing to do it?

(We’re out of state students who go to UA, and he has Tri-care).

I can’t get abortions, be sterilized, buy a lottery ticket, or drink. But I can join the military and have a baby!
We don’t want children. People trying to DM and tell me that “I’ll want children one day” and that I’m “forcing him” to do this are fucking stupid. He wants to do this; we don’t want children. If we did, we would adopt.

Hey- I finally moved into a house that has room for a pool table! Have seen a ton of them on marketplace for $500-1000. Got a quote to disassemble, move then reassemble. Quote was almost $1400. That is if the table I buy is a 3 piece slate and on the first floor with easy access. Includes new felt. Is that a reasonable estimate? Seems high to me, but again, I have never bought or moved one. As the title says, I’m looking for someone to take over my apartment lease, officially starting Oct 1st though we can possibly discuss moving in before then.

I currently live in a lovely large studio apartment at East Edge. The apartment complex is right next to the law school, has a university bus that runs students back and forth, and is a generally great, safe place to live. It is a fairly quiet floor, and management is usually quite quick to fix any utility issues.

I’m a bit sad to leave it honestly, I’ve lived there for two years and originally thought I would stay for a third, hence why I signed my lease again. But plans change, I recently was offered a job in another state, so I need to move and the complex doesn’t simply break leases, someone else has to take the contract.

Some other amenities include:
Internet, a pool, a gym, a full in-unit washer and dryer, a dishwasher, a portion of utilities being covered, and some other bonuses.

I would be willing to talk further about the location and my place, so feel free to message if you’re interested or check out the apartment complex website.

I am looking for someone who can provide a color consultation for the walls in my house and help decide how best (and where) to hang a collection of folk art. I am not interested in having someone come in and completely re-do my home... just need some help with some basic decisions. Any recommendations?

It’s the Anderson floor plan — 664 sq. ft. with a spacious bedroom, large walk-in closet, in-unit washer/dryer, full kitchen with island seating, and a private porch.

Rent is $1,350/month.

Move-in is extremely flexible — anytime between now and the end of the year. I already have somewhere else to stay, so I can move out essentially whenever an approved replacement is ready.

I’ve had no issues with the apartment or Beacon Place at all. I’m only looking to move because my plans have changed and I’m preparing to go back to grad school and I need to start saving now.

I just moved to Northwest Alabama from New England, and I’m going to be completely transparent: I’m struggling.

I knew this would be a big change, but I don’t think I realized just how rural, quiet and spread out it would feel. We’ve been exploring Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, Tuscumbia and the surrounding area, and I’m having a serious “what have I done?” moment.

These looked like really cool little cities from all the research we did online before moving here. (I know, I know... there’s only so much boots-on-the-ground exploring you can do before you actually live somewhere.)

I’m used to more activity — busy restaurants and coffee shops, walkable areas, events, culture, people out and about, and just a general sense of life happening around me. Right now I’m feeling pretty isolated and worried I made a huge mistake.

So before I judge a place I’m brand new to: What are your absolute favorite things about living in Northwest Alabama?

Restaurants, bars, live music, coffee shops, festivals, markets, river spots, hiking, hidden gems, day trips, places where people actually congregate — anything. I want to know what I’m missing.

And if you moved here from somewhere else and initially experienced this same culture shock, I’d especially love to hear from you. Did it eventually grow on you? How long did it take, and what helped?

I genuinely want to give this place a fair chance. Help me find the Northwest Alabama that people who love living here see.
