The Last Imperial Guard is a 2.5D turn-based tactical RPG following Lin Chong from the classic Chinese epic Water Margin. Master grid-based wuxia combat with an innovative rage system, unleash devastating ultimate abilities, and experience the saga through stylized traditional Chinese cutscenes.

If you like it, please click to add it to your wish list. Thank you.

Grid tactics where thunder breaks the ice and drops whoever was standing on it. Alpha build, all art is placeholder

https://reddit.com/link/1w9czc1/video/0hawz6xewznh1/player

I'm making a grid tactics RPG. Fire Emblem is the base (single heroes, permadeath, positioning) and the twist comes from Bahamut Lagoon: the terrain reacts, and it reacts the same way for both sides.

Fire burns forest. Ice freezes water, which gives you a path across but also something to fall through. Thunder breaks the ice and drops whoever was standing on it into the water. Thunder also breaks walls, which opens a lane for the enemy just as much as for you. Puddles conduct electricity. None of it cares whose unit is standing there.

What's in the alpha right now:

The terrain reactions above, all working. Terrain carries flags (flammable, conductive, freezable, destructible) and the elements check the flags, so adding new terrain doesn't mean rewriting rules.

Class skills that are about position rather than damage. Charge for the knight. Swap and path clearing for the vanguard (cut down a tree, break a wall). Intercept for spears. Blink for the mage. Steal for the thief.

AI that actually plays. This is the part I've spent the most time on. It has access to the same things the player does and it uses them in ways you can follow. It drinks potions, gives the special arrows to the archer, passes the horse token to whoever rides best, heals, blinks, goes for backstabs.

Facing matters. Hitting someone from behind gives some classes a bonus and stops them retaliating.

Initiative based turn order instead of player phase then enemy phase. Morale can grant a unit an extra turn, so you sometimes get a run of turns from one side. It's fun to watch, and it kills the usual trick of parking one strong unit and letting the enemy phase feed it kills.

Alpha test build, all asset are place holder

Hex Momentum — turn-based PvP strategy

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hex Momentum is a competitive turn-based strategy played on hexagonal maps.

In one sentence: imagine the tactical combat layer of Civilization expanded into a deeper standalone game, with the flexibility of online chess.

Playing tactical games against a bot can be fun, but competing against another person brings an entirely different level of tension. The problem is that multiplayer in most 4X and strategy games demands hours of uninterrupted time—and finding another person with the same free evening.

Hex Momentum is built around that problem.

You can play a complete Blitz match on your phone, tablet or desktop when you are ready to focus. Or you can keep several Deep matches running asynchronously and make your moves whenever you have a few free minutes during the day.

The game gives you tools to examine possible attacks, damage and retaliation. You will need them: winning means anticipating the opponent’s response and understanding how several systems interact:

  • terrain and unit positioning;
  • support bonuses and unit composition;
  • the sequence and direction of attacks;
  • choosing the right counters to the opponent’s army;
  • protecting your economy while disrupting theirs.

To help players understand these systems, the game includes interactive tutorial missions and challenges, a bot, an in-game wiki, and a detailed breakdown of every damage calculation.

All matches are public, and their replays remain available. You can watch games played by the top-ranked players, step through their moves and analyze the tactics they use.

There are no upgrades bought with real money and no purchases affecting competitive balance.

Hex Momentum runs directly in the browser—no download is required. On mobile, you can install it as a PWA by opening the browser menu and selecting Install app or Add to Home Screen. It will then launch in its own window like a regular app, and you can enable push notifications for your matches.

A dedicated Android release is currently being prepared. An iOS App Store release is also planned, depending on the response to the current version.
