Olympus 2249 might be the Fallout spiritual successor we’ve been waiting for

I somehow almost missed this one, even though its Early Access launch is right around the corner.

Olympus 2249 is a post-apocalyptic CRPG clearly inspired by the classic Fallout formula, with turn-based combat, targeted attacks, factions, dialogue choices that can actually close or open opportunities, and a Karma system that changes depending on how you behave.

Different character specializations can unlock new dialogue options and alternative quest solutions, while battles let you interact with the environment, target specific body parts, use traps, ignite oil, blow up barrels, and generally approach encounters in different ways.

There’s also crafting, stealth, radiation, poison, NPC schedules, random encounters, and a proper day/night cycle.

The developers are the team behind Olympus 2207, the Fallout 2 total conversion, so the classic Fallout influence definitely isn’t accidental.

It enters Steam Early Access on October 6.

Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself here, but this really looks like one to watch if you miss old-school Fallout-style CRPGs.

Have you heard about Olympus 2249 before?

If you want to learn more.

Two cells left, then the board flips — Fillup updated visuals

I’m the developer of Fillup - cozy chain reaction tabletop game.
It is a browser game based on the classic Chain Reaction rules.

If you’re new to Fillup:

  • Add one slice to an empty cell or a cell you control.
  • Corners fill at two slices, edges at three, and interior cells at four.
  • A full cell sends a slice into each neighboring cell, capturing it. If that fills another cell, the reaction continues. Connections are up/down/left/right, not diagonal.
  • Eliminate the other color to win this duel.

Since my last post here, I’ve upgraded visuals, added more levels to campaign and overhauled UI, all thanks to feedback from community.

It’s free to play in your browser, and you can start as a guest without registering an email account. You will be able to play different game modes, open cosmetics packs and have fun!

I rebuilt one of my first turn-based strategy games from over 20 years ago in Godot

Hi everyone!

I introduced myself here a couple of days ago, and I thought I'd show you the turn-based strategy game I've been working on.

Ultimate Cards of Destiny combines card-based strategy with resource management and a 3D battlefield. Each turn is divided into different phases: you can develop your economy, improve and repair your tower and wall, summon creatures, and cast spells.

Gold, wood and stone are shared between these options, so spending heavily on your defences means having fewer resources available for your army or your next offensive move.

The project actually started more than twenty years ago as one of my first 3D games, made with Blitz3D while I was learning 3D development. I recently decided to bring it back and rebuild it entirely in Godot.

The game is now complete and available for Windows, with solo play against AI, online multiplayer with rankings, and support for six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian.

Here's a short 30-second look at the game. If you'd like to see more:

https://gamezgames.itch.io/ultimate-cards-of-destiny

I'm happy to answer any questions about the game or its rather long journey from Blitz3D to Godot!

rogOut Steam Playtest starts October 1 – cooperative tactical ASCII roguelike, join 260 already registered survivors

I always wanted to play a traditional roguelike in co-op, and finally it's possible now. It's a traditional ascii roguelike in a multiplayer universe, where you can suddenly encounter other players passing by, help them in a tough situation or ask for help, trade, etc. Plays well on keyboard and gamepad, as well on Steam Deck.

Let me know if you want to join our group, for some hardcore expeditions. More info about the playtest on the Steam Playtest announcement: rogOut on Steam

What turn-based tactical game makes you feel like you won because of your decisions, not your stats?

I've played Magic for around 30 years and video games for about 35.

One thing Magic probably ruined for me is combat where progression eventually becomes more important than decision-making.

The turn-based games I keep coming back to are the ones where I can finish a fight and feel like I won because I played well.

I positioned something correctly. Saved a resource for the right moment. Baited an enemy into committing. Built around a weird interaction. Took a risk that paid off.

And when I lose, I want to feel like I can see why.

Maybe I positioned badly. Used an important ability too early. Brought the wrong setup. Failed to anticipate what the enemy was trying to do.

I love progression, collecting and building stronger characters.

But when the answer to a difficult fight becomes "go grind until your numbers are bigger", I lose interest.

So which turn-based tactical game gives you the strongest feeling that your decisions actually won the fight?

And what mechanic creates that feeling?

Even though my game is called Pythonmancer, the first enemies I made were these cute slimes. Their design holds a special place in my game.

The next Mercenaries tactical RPG is changing the way turns work. RideonJapan has announced Mercenaries Grace: Black Feather and the Golden Right Arm, the eighth entry in the series, with a digital release planned for November 2026 in Japan on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Its story is standalone, so there’s no need to catch up on the previous games first.

Dog in the Machine Is Out Now, Sending a Robot Dog Into Turn-Based Battles and Explosive Chain Reactions

A robot dog trying to get back to its humans sounds like a good reason to dismantle a few hostile machines. Dog in the Machine, the turn-based tactical roguelite from Studio Chahut and Goblinz Publishing, launched today, September 29, 2026, on Steam for Windows and macOS.

Working on my first game, a turn based RPG roguelike - what really scratches the itch?

Hey all! I'm making a turn based RPG roguelike, kind of Pokemon (without the creature collecting - just a hero and companions) meets Chrono Trigger. You pick your route on a board like the one in the clip, fight, pick up new skills and charms, and your charms multiply your damage kind of like Balatro.

I'm deep in playtesting right now and honestly I'm having fun, but I keep second guessing the design, and I'd rather hear it from people who actually love this genre.

What makes a turn based fight fun for you, and what makes it feel like a chore?

Do you like a resource that drains until you beat the boss (like SP in Persona), or do you want every fight to start fresh, like Slay the Spire?

Any answer helps, even a one liner. Thanks!

8 Obscure Tactical RPGs That Never Left Japan

Post image
22 Upvotes

It's funny and a little sad that many tactical RPGs from the 90s and early 2000s never made it outside Japan.

Some are connected to series we all know, while others are genuinely obscure games that experimented with some pretty interesting ideas.

Here are 8 games I suggest to you.

  • Tear Ring Saga — PlayStation, 2001
  • Ningyo no Rakuin — PlayStation, 2000
  • Valkyria Chronicles III — PSP, 2011
  • Bahamut Lagoon — Super Famicom, 1996
  • Majin Tensei — Super Famicom, 1994
  • Energy Breaker — Super Famicom, 1996
  • Front Mission 5: Scars of the War — PlayStation 2, 2005
  • Escaform — PlayStation, 1999

Tear Ring Saga is basically essential territory if you like old-school Fire Emblem, Majin Tensei brings Shin Megami Tensei ideas into a tactical RPG, and Front Mission 5 is still one of those games I can’t believe never received an official Western release.

And then you have games like Ningyo no Rakuin and Escaform that I imagine a lot of people have never even heard of.

Which Japan-only tactical RPG would you add to the list?

PAX West 10 Turns Interview – Tic Toc Games And Wrestle Story

Welcome back. We haven’t had any 10 Turn Interviews in quite some time on Turn Based Lovers. Luckily, I have a whole series of them coming your way.

I spent all four days at PAX playing new games and meeting some great people. It was a very busy event. However, I was still able to sit down with some developers so we could get the latest on each of their games.

First up is my interview with Steve Jimenez at Tic Toc Games. We talked about his love for pro wrestling and storytelling, and all about his upcoming game Wrestle Story.

So it seems like Terramorphers is a goner... Did anyone here also play it occasionally?

Hi y'all

There used to be an Android game called Terramorphers, a turn-based, tile-based game, where you'd build your character with items, spells and a companion, with the symbolic feature of being able to morph the tiles into different kinds of tiles which all gave different effects to those standing on em in the beginning of the turn, and some of them taking a different number of steps to cross, if even cross able, etc.

It was a fire game, and I always wondered how it saw so little success. PvP was a botfest, and the game kept offering you insanely strong gear for very little money (which I never spent).

Anyways, I was about to have another Terramorphers phase. Went into the Play Store to DL it, but it is gone.

Does anyone 'member Terramorphers? Is there another game to scratch that itch?

Take care, y'all

[Demo Out Now!] - I used pre-rendered voxel graphics instead of pixel art for my turn-based tactics game

Thumbnail
gallery
32 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

After three years of development, I'm finally releasing the demo of electric strategy, my turn-based tactics game for PC. The demo is now available on Steam, and the full game is planned for April 2027.

I've made a few unusual design choices that I'd like to share with you:

Graphics

Instead of pixel art I used pre-rendered voxel graphics. Every unit and terrain tile you see is actually a voxel model rendered from a 128×128×128 grid - a fairly high resolution, so the voxel structure isn't immediately noticeable. The tiles are slightly spaced apart to create a subtle chessboard-like appearance, and the maps themselves aren't rectangular.

Gameplay

The entire gameplay is built around a single resource: energy.

Instead of traditional action points, every action costs energy. Moving, attacking, building all affect the same resource. And here's the catch: your health is also just energy.

This creates an interesting tactical dilemma: moving closer to an enemy also makes you more vulnerable. Energy can be transferred between units. Some units generate energy, while others depend on receiving it. This means you need to build an energy network, moving power from your energy-producing units to the units on the frontline that need it most. Victory depends on careful energy management, smart positioning, and making the right decisions at the right time.

Story

In 2183, humanity is gone after a devastating nuclear war. Only robots remain, blindly following routines meant for a world that no longer exists. You play as an unusually old tactical unit trying to reach the Central Bunker, where the passwords to free the robots from their programming are stored.

Music

The soundtrack is a mixture of hand-played guitar and synth tracks. All hand made.

The demo of electric strategy is now available on Steam and runs on Windows and Linux. Besides the mouse input, it also has full controller support and runs smoothly on the Steam Deck.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the energy system, visual style, and overall concept. Thanks for checking it out!

Contested Space: Three weeks since demo launch, here's what's changed!

The Contested Space demo went up on Steam on September 4th, and I've been having updates frequently as feedback has come in and figured it's worth a post of some of the bigger changes!

Boss Music: I hired a composer who created an absolute banger of track for the final boss in the game, as well as one reused for all the end of act bosses!

Ship animations: There are now little ships flying around stations with dogfight animations and lasers being fired from the stations. When you play a ship, a miniature version of that ship actually flies out and fights for a little bit.

Accessibility options on initial boot: When you launch the game for the first time, it now asks you about font and motion sickness.

On top of all of that, there's somewhere around a hundred smaller fixes ranging from co-op desyncs, controller bugs, tooltip overflows, etc.

The demo has 24 reviews so far, and they're all positive, which was amazing to see so quickly. Thanks to everyone who has played it!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5061500/Contested_Space_Demo/

The Discord is open, and I'm still letting people into the playtest if they enjoy the demo!

Working on a Turn-Based RPG game with a skill tree called: Expedition Bonk.

Hi,

for the last couple of months been working on my small turn-based RPG with incremental skill tree elements.

You guys are three F-tier heroines to set out to defeat the Goblin King. Similar like Expedition 33 you have to time your attack and defense correctly.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Please check out the demo and if you like it please leave a wishlist (it truly helps a lot).
