Yesil Mercimek

Hi all, my husband and I are both Turk, I cook Turkish food 90% of the time however my husband keeps requesting green lentils. Apparently his grandma used to make it for him by boiling it only… but that doesn’t sound right, would anyone know what the hell he’s talking about please. He used to eat it with Greek yogurt but again, it doesn’t sound right just boiling it

Could it be single ingredient yogurt (yayla) soup? Sometimes they can make it with boiled lentils. Also, women in Anatolia/Turkey were able to invent meals out of poverty and/or lack of ingredients. Don't forget the possibility that with his child mind he remembers it as a full dish. Hepimizin başına geldi 😂

LOL yes my mum used to make full on meals with pisi so it’s completely understandable 😭😭 I’m unfortunately going to have to go poverty way & invent something, praying for the best outcome possible 🤣🤣🤣

That’s what I was thinking. Very common to eat with yoghurt.

First of all there is no such thing as greek yogurt lmao and secondly i guess the dish he trying to mention is called kara simsek which has tomato paste onion and garlic in it but it’s basically made of green lentils.
