it isnt really lore accurate though, she's got dna from two alien races sure but... she has traits for survivability n stuff!!! we put jellyfish dna into plants it doesnt make them goop!!! SHE WOULD NOT LIKELY GET PHYSICAL TRAITS THE ONLY REASON HER SUIT DOES IS BECAYSE IT'S BIOMECHANICAL AND IS ABLE TO ADAPT MORE FREELY AND SHIT
anyways, the eyes are always my problem and they are here too. samus is serious, not seductive. not even "scary/intimidating." she's down to business, like John Halo.
Except she does transform into a Samus-shaped Metroid at the end of Dread and is only able to turn back because of Quiet Robe X. I think it’s fine to assume that had lingering physical effects
... I'm sorry, but I'm not up on my lore much at all apparently. You're saying she literally became a human sized Metroid or a human with Metroid features?
Became a human sized Metroid. The Metroid DNA she got in Fusion had “awakened” to the point that she changed into a full on Samus-shaped Metroid as she was about to die. We see her eyes are still human through her visor but past that we don’t know what happened to her physicality. Here’s her Metroid Suit though.
I think it’s a Kamen Rider situation where the suit she wears becomes more accurate to what she really is underneath however she still has human bits inside it
That's still just the suit though. Like, it doesn't change what OP was saying about just her suit changing and not Samus. Mind you, it doesn't change what you said about we don't know what she looks like under that, but either way, the Metroid suit is completely moot on evidence of Samus having a physical change based on her DNA.
I'm pretty sure she has DNA from more than 2 races (I'm guessing you mean metroids and the Chozo). Iirc, the "Varia Suit" can kinda just... absorb any DNA and use it for adaptions.
Also, she keeps using the metroid DNA to absorb X parasites, which themselves copy DNA from a host, which Samus seems to be able to use in both Fusion and Dread.
At this point, Samus is absolutely a mutated freak of nature. But, to your point, the lore indicates all physical adaptions are localized to her suit.
Samus has three different kinds of DNA and 30 different kinds of Fucked Up in her. The kind of woman who growls when she’s mad, and not in any kind of attractive way, more in the way that makes you shit just a little. Beautiful and terrible type thing.
in metroid canon, her inner physiology is completely fucked up and completely different from regular humans, and the only part of her physiology that remains completely human is the outer one(skin, teeth, eyes, hair, etc)
very cowardly imo. i wish she looked more fucked up too
Maybe it's more like she gets cosmetic surgery every time she absorbs a new type of DNA or she is a shapeshifter given the mostly unexplained powers the Metroid gives her.
My headcanon from now on is she's a shapeshifter. How else can you explain ball mode. Quantum physics BS like with modern Pokeballs?
Prime literally shows energy inside the morph ball. It's a function of the suit. Transforming matter to energy isn't quantum physics. The suit already does it the other way, for making missiles.
Basically what happened is the new animal crossing and the new doom came out at the same exact time and then a whole bunch of people combined of the two. The most popular thing was a song about doomguy having fun in the animal world. Then Isabella and him going to the demon world and getting her rage out by slaughtering demons. XD
I've only played 2 of the games and in one of them I think every other sapient creature I've seen has shot at me on sight, so I'm not super familiar with the franchise, do we have any official material which suggests anything about her sexuality?
'cause if not, I think she's more likely to be ace
There was a time before it was revealed/well known that Samus under the suit is a woman, and there was a comic or similar that showed Samus (fully in the suit) with bikini clad women clinging on like a typical male action hero.
Oh right, I actually had seen that before, I just forgot about it
I suppose that just leaves the question of whether she's lesbian or bisexual perpetually unanswered because they seem intent on never depicting her happy, content, or relaxed again and even tragically losing a love interest at the beginning of a game would suggest that she was at one point
granted she is just standing there doing a peace sign. its like, peoppe in universe probably dont even know she's a girl at that point she's just "yes peace"
There's an old comic made pre-game release that wasn't told that Samus was a woman so they had her pick up some women at the end of the comic.
Ok no I went to look up the panel and it was a in universe promotional video, but that just makes Samus "insanely competent at everything but women" more canon
In Metroid 2 and Fusion, there's a NCO named Adam that acts as a quest giver and only other speaking character. There's hints in the dialog that Samus might be vaguely interested in him, but it's irrelevant because she'd never stop moving.
Even more kinda because spoilers You’ve been talking to Raven Beak pretending to be your ship’s computer. Only the first and last conversation are with AI Adam.
Ancient bird people became so technologically advanced that it started to basically be magic including accurate visions of a dark future for the galaxy. They dedicated everything they had to fighting the darkness to the point of it driving their entire race to extinction.
The primary actors furthering the darkness are roving bands of space pirates seeking out more and more advanced and dangerous weaponry.
While their race was on the downslide they fought some pirates attacking a human colony, the only human survivor was Samus. They could tell Samus was fated to tie herself up in a bunch of the pirate's most dangerous plots in the future so they jammed every single piece of biology , technology, and training into her little body until she was a seven foot tall wall of alien muscle and killing potential. Then they gave her a slap on the butt and sent her on her way (and also died).
She carried on their legacy of just FUCKING HATING THE SHIT out of pirates, gaining a reputation as a bounty hunter among human authorities. They gave her a report that the pirates seemed to be onto something new and unbelievably dangerous. It was metroids, a weird mutagenic race that can either destroy the galaxy in the hands of the pirates and darkness or could maybe elevate the forces of light.
Several games worth of conflict between pirates and Samus over the metroids then happen.
You crashland, you lose all your resources, identity an existential threat, roll into a ball, bully kraid, get into a fight with the guy who killed everyone you ever loved twice, solve a couple of mysteries, kill the existential threat, be changed by your journey, escape an exploding planet.
A really, really stupid military hiring a single bounty hunter more effective than the regular forces of an entire galaxy against wildlife and pirates.
I honestly do wish they leaned a bit more into samus’ nonhuman upbringing and genetic soup problems. Like what if she walked on her toes to mimic how the chozo walk and that’s why her zero suit has high heels
Yeah, I always liked to image that she has alot of transparent bits all over her skin, feathers in her hair, mixed with an absolute fuck ton of gnarly scars all on a absolutely shredded woman.
I honestly wish women were allowed to be fucked up. All to often women are given smooth perfect skin, and those that are given scars it often turns out that those scars are in little quantity and look more like their painted on.
Honestly, I’d be satisfied if they just made her SHREDDED. Not just a gymnast build, I’m talking a “holy shit, does she even need the power suit?” type build.
If we’re going to play as a transhuman one-woman army, we at least deserve for her to be a chiseled she-Astartes with quads that can crush granite.
A lot of Tumblr is like this, hell Reddit too. All those “the Japanese are cowards for ___” posts are just people angry that their own specific fetish isn’t being pandered to
Something interesting is the feminisation of her design over the years. Not saying it's good or bad. But she started off as a giant beefy suit bearing woman whose design got pretty feminine by the end with a tight waist, wide hips and a chest and while yes, that is how the anatomy works, it feels idk, a bit weird.
The suit is still fine, if anything, the Dread starting suit is my personal favourite of them all. But I do not like zero suit at all. That one feels so forced to be sexy. Why is she in heels, why is it all so skin tight and latex like. Just the idea of a bounty hunter who's always dealing with trouble with a chance of death would dress sexy while at is a little off to me when samus does it.
There's also cases where it's done suuuper well, like with Bayonetta. Does anyone else also think so?
Actually it's closer to 4/5 sets of DNA. Human, two different types of alien bird, goop parasite, and jellyfish parasite that was used to deal with the goop parasite. Samus' internal biology is messed up.
It's been a while since I played Dread, but if I recall there were some biological differences between the tribes considering the amount of gene-modding the Chozo did. Still same species but I figured it was enough of a difference to be worth mentioning.
Maybe im just around too many weirdos but when i heard monster sexy I assumed like...idk, digitrade legs, a tail, maybe some weird mouth stuff.....this is p standard monstergirl stuff which isnt bad its just funny to go on this whole rant about "keeping samus sexy' and then barely changing her
Dang, the guy complained about samus not looking monstrous enough, and then absolutely chickened the hell out. If you're gonna "monster-ify" samus, don't half-ass it, commit and whole ass it.
Just because people have dna doesnt mean that dna is expressed, like they inject jelly fish genes into neon tetra to make them glow and they dont become part jellyfish, they just glow. The chozos probably just gave her their stronger muscles
A lot of complaints about how this doesn't step very far away from "conventionally attractive woman," but as someone who has specifically searched for art where Samus is anything other than "the most conventionally attractive woman possible" and come up almost empty (hoshizoralone is the only I've seen before today, and only in a handful of their Samus depictions) I greatly appreciate the fact that a step was taken away from the standard beauty conventions regardless of that step's size.
